New purchase - Garage find

My new purchase - Garage find - We knew my brother in law had a BMW bike. He never rode it. He is in a care home now so while cleaning out the garage - LOOK what we found.

I also notice that about wunderlich. But so does your bmw dealer. The MAX parts fiche has the details:

What a great project.

Sweet!!! How much did you get it for??

I'll assume the seat and fairing will go into the local landfill, but otherwise... the bike looks in great shape. Nice...

Congrats

What bags came with it as I see the racks.

I am with Pirate...seat and fairing must go, I would also remove the rear rack and change the bars for S bars and add bar end mirrors.

Might want to put a pan under that leak.

Re: New purchase - Garage find

I have been out in the drive way - it seems that my 1988 316,000+ Ford F-150 wants some attention by have a leaking wheel cylinder - the generic parts at the parts store did not fit. So there is always the internet for parts that fit. It was a little hard carrying the brake drums for the truck on my back while riding the K1200GT.

Re: New purchase - Garage find

The original seat is in the garage - pretty much pristine. My sister said the hard bags were back plastic rectangular with BMW on them. She will try to find them over the next week or so. The horns were there when my brother in law bought the bike. I am get a little of the back ground now. He was a civilian engineer for the Air Force and picked the R900 from an Air Force member coming back from Europe. The previous owner drove it over there. Also it was never titled after he picked it up. I guess he did not want to pay for taxes, registration, plates or insurance.

Re: New purchase - Garage find

Dave of "Quality Cycle Service" formerly of Mesa Arizona now
in the Tonto Basin, Arizona told me not to get too crazy with it and to check if the engine will even rotate. He also told me "you do understand that this does not have electric start" :-). I will be airing up the tires, changing the oil cleaning the gas tank and giving a through going over before I move it. It is diffidently going to be a project. I agreed to purchase it for $1,500.00 from my sister. I am thinking about another $1000.00 to get to where it runs well and I feel safe on it.

I have the original seat. I have never been much a faring guy. I kind of like the original look and naked bikes. Simple and clean just for fun. I do not know why it has the wheels it has. The original, I believe, had wire wheels

Re: New purchase - Garage find

I got ALL the papers today. I found this: (very nice)

May 16 1997
To the New Owner of My BMW R 90/6.
Here is the Owner's Manual and various papers that relate to the BMW R 90/6 that we got in Munich in the year 1974 and I feel they should stay with the bike We acquired the bike as pan of the deal: “Von Thiclmans Conducted Europpean Motorcycle Tours'. It was quite an experience to ride that bike all over Central Europe including the Alps. Instead of staying nights in the cities, we stayed in quaint villages. Once on the autobahn in Germany I had it up to 120 mph. After the tour, the bike was shipped from Munich to Columbus via “Lufthansa Airfreight". I hope you enjoy the bike as much as have. I wouldn't be selling it if I hadn't gotten old.

I also have all the shipping papers (in German) and all the original dealers paper and a complete paper trail.

It does not look like the original photo

Someone might have convinced him to upgrade to tubeless rims? It's quite possible he still has the original wheels somewhere?

Yes, the original had spoke wheels and tube tires.
The Lester wheels on your bike were a common aftermarket option.
