RIP Anthony Bourdain...

I always thought he was a pretty cool dude. He sure had a way with words.

Sad when anyone commits suicide, in this case it demonstrates that wealth and celebrity status doesnt bring happiness.

Good friend said this to me a long time ago when talking about a person who seemed "normal" and making a decision to do something dire:

"Still waters run deep"

You may never know what battles another person is going thru on the inside.

Godspeed Tony and the many others that have gone before.

Having your girlfriend (Asia) flaunting it with another man (images of them holding hands floating about) was the catalyst in this case.

As he stated in the Hong Kong episode; (paraphrasing): "These is being in love with China (he was) and there is bring in love while in China"

The chick (refer to the 'Rome' episode) he was clearly in love with, cheated on Anthony and another unworthy woman takes down a great man...

Re: RIP Anthony Bourdain...

It's hard to believe that, for some, the only way out is suicide. And it's a downright shame no matter whether they're a celebrity or a normal Joe. While they may think they will find peace in dealing with their demons, perceived faults and everything else that haunts them, they somehow overlook, forget or just plain fail to consider how many others lives will be impacted by their selfishness... somehow they've rationalized, convinced and/or self-guilted themselves into thinking the world will be a better place without them but they hurt so many others in the process, especially family members & others they're close to. But depression is a disease that clouds one's judgement to the point thought is not rational.

Still, it's sad & hard to understand how suicide can be the only answer.

RIP AB...

Re: RIP Anthony Bourdain...

A friend posted this elsewhere:

Rest In Peace AB.

In depression this faith in deliverance, in ultimate restoration, is absent. The pain is unrelenting, and what makes the condition intolerable is the foreknowledge that no remedy will come- not in a day, an hour, a month, or a minute. If there is mild relief, one knows that it is only temporary; more pain will follow. It is hopelessness even more than pain that crushes the soul. So the decision-making of daily life involves not, as in normal affairs, shifting from one annoying situation to another less annoying- or from discomfort to relative comfort, or from boredom to activity- but moving from pain to pain. One does not abandon, even briefly, one’s bed of nails, but is attached to it wherever one goes. And this results in a striking experience- one which I have called, borrowing military terminology, the situation of the walking wounded. For in virtually any other serious sickness, a patient who felt similar devastation would by lying flat in bed, possibly sedated and hooked up to the tubes and wires of life-support systems, but at the very least in a posture of repose and in an isolated setting. His invalidism would be necessary, unquestioned and honorably attained. However, the sufferer from depression has no such option and therefore finds himself, like a walking casualty of war, thrust into the most intolerable social and family situations. There he must, despite the anguish devouring his brain, present a face approximating the one that is associated with ordinary events and companionship. He must try to utter small talk, and be responsive to questions, and knowingly nod and frown and, God help him, even smile. But it is a fierce trial attempting to speak a few simple words.

Yep- getting cheated on affects some more than others - for those who've not been there, well, unlikely that makes any sense.

While a broken heart can be fatal, killing yourself over a mate cheating on one is a bit over the top.....why? Because there will always be another love out there if one wants....and only renewed love will cure a broken heart...losing your mate of 40-5o years, that's another story.

If your cheated on...man up as to how and why one contributed to that......

Everyone reacts differently to a tragedy, 'love' or otherwise. As much as its nice to think that one can, in the midst of a breakup, talk someone off the dopamine and serotonin edge, those unfortunate love drugs nature has provided us are powerful. I'm not certain, but I bet the majority of us have been there (break ups) and if in the moment someone exclaimed that there's always someone out there for ya, well, I'm sure it would fall on deaf ears. The smart ones amongst us realize that 'love' is a cruel trick and it's most certainly not the answer & only a temporary state of insanity

It is hard to think about someone donking themselves off over a girl. We’ve all been bummed over losing love. But I guess if you’re already on a tightrope it might be enough? Very sad if that’s all it took...

Don't know either but having read his book, watched the show, he had definitely lived the life to the fullest... What's left?

He'd been dependent on serious drugs, everyone knew that...
Then all over the place, time zones juggled, etc.
Feeling lost...

The thrill is gone...

Again, what's left?

Who knows?
