Where to pull keyed 12v for top case?

I wanted to run 12v keyed power to light a top case that will run lighting. No brake lights, just the tail light. Where is the best location to pull power from? They are LED so I'm assuming amperage draw will be very low.

Re: Where to pull keyed 12v for top case?

I used the gps power lead for mine. Couple of positaps did the job.

Install a fuseblock. Pretty simple and provides plenty of options later. There are several excellent options. Pull switched power from the GPS connector, tail light, etc with positap connector.

Re: Where to pull keyed 12v for top case?

I used two posi-taps off of the running light/ground wires from the taillight.
My topbox is a Givi 47L monokey. The aux light kit is a nice improvement for visibility.
You could also tap the GPS connector block up in front of the fuel filler cap. It stays on for one minute after the key is switched to off, BTW.

I wanted to stay to the rear of the bike as I'm getting weary of stripping the fairing for every mod I put on
Here's a question. On my taillight there is a plug with only 2 wires? Which is running and which would be brake?

Re: Where to pull keyed 12v for top case?

That was the unplanned bonus!
There is a power wire and a ground wire. The power wire delivers two different amperages:
A constant low for running, and an intermittent high for brake lights. They are using the same LEDs.
If your lights were designed with that in mind, (mine were), you’ll get both.

This is part of that CANBUS trickery, one wire can have more than one function.
(This is my first “modern” bike. I’m learning lots...)
