Re: Jarvish Smart Helmet

We've seen several high tech helmet promos over the last few years and not one of them has turned into a reality - I'd be skeptical with this. Here's a link to their website https://www.jarvish.com/

So in seriousness, if it is getting nearby radar from an "accurate" (do those exist) weather service that could be useful. Quick story... the year is 2005, I'm traveling without a GPS or smartphone (hard to even believe that this was our world just 13 short years ago).

I notice that the sky ahead looks like rain as I pull into a gas station to refuel. While there, another car load of patrons pull in, as they exit their vehicle, I can't help but notice the looks being thrown my way. Did I have something stuck in my teeth? Could it be that they didn't realize that BMW made MOTORCYCLES? Was I proof to them that there was life on Mars? I don't know, but it most certainly made me feel a bit awkward.

As I'm finishing my fill, they break the awkward moment asking, "which direction are ya headed?" I hadn't looked at a map (yes, map) to know the next major town name, but I reply, I'm planning on heading 97 north", pointing toward the ever growing darkness in the sky. It was at that point that I come to realize that while I might have had something stuck in my teeth, and they might have never seen a BMW motorcycle, the looks were for other reasons. As they continue to talk, it begins to hail, and one of them says "do you realize that there's a tornado coming from that direction?"

It was at that point that I decided to hunker down at the gas station, my bike parked all but inside. About two hours later I was back on the road and got to play the awesome game of navigate the wreckage with your map. All in all, an experience that I will never forget. Had it not been for the interaction with them, I'd have likely donned my rain gear and headed into the storm.

Jeeeezus Matt, if you recall, we HAD mobile phones, GPS & maps in WV and STILL ended up pulled over in a very sketchy parking lot of a decrepit old bar, waiting out a seemingly ceaseless deluge. Doubt a “smart” helmet would have improved the situation.

You really DID just say those words to me, right, Matt?
Damn it, trying not to channel Joe.

Now back to the subject of smart helmets.

Yup, of course I did, I was throwin' ya an easy bone... West Virginny, very sketchy parking lot, decrepit old bar, what a perfect environment, right?

And yes, back to Smart Helmets.
