Finally have an inline 4 again...

Greetings,

Just picked up a 2008 K1200s from a family relative that passed away. The bike has about 7k miles and hasn't been ridden much at all in the last 4 years. He was getting ready to sell it, and as a result was draining fluids to refresh them first.

I am in the middle of assessing the bike, and will then get it roadworthy by doing all the services (myself) and determine an accurate $$ to give my aunt for it. It's my third bike in the garage, along with a 1999 Ducati 996s that I picked up about 10 years ago as well as a 1983 Honda V65 Magna that has been between myself and my dad over the past 20+ years. Last year I did a full resto on the Magna aside from engine teardown.

Excited to get into the K12s and to have an inline 4 to balance out my V2 & V4 motors.

Thanks!

Ps pics coming shortly...

Looks very nice apart from the fairing scratches but you can fix those without the need for a new fairing panel - it looks to me like the sort of scratches you get when you come to a halt, put you foot down only to find your foot is on loose gravel and down she gently goes.

It would also help a bit if you resize your photos before posting so that they fit on the screen.

Re: Finally have an inline 4 again...

I need to get me a 996 so that we can fully relate. I've already been down the v65 Magna and K12S roads.

Welcome.

Spot on. The V65 has been in the family for over 20 years... mine, then to my dad, then back to me. About 2 years ago I stripped the bike down for a refresh... re-did every item made of rubber, powder coated the frame, and lots of new fasteners or replaying of them. Redid the chrome, painted the motor, refinished the wheels including turning on a lathe to get the factory finish. Only thing I didn’t touch was engine internals and the factory tank, side covers, and rear fairing which are in 9.5/10 condition after all these years.

The Ducati is a blast too, but another one that doesn’t go out if there is a chance of rain to keep it clean. Just over 7k on it, and it is a 9.5/10 bike. Have put 5 sets of belts onto it, done the valves (including pulling the cams to check for wear), and lots of other fixes to keep it running smooth.

The K12S... well it’s the workhorse now. I can ride it to work and no worry if it rains. It’s not perfect so my ocd can take a rest. I’ve fully gone through it... all new fluids, new valve cover gasket, fixed a few broken bolts and found some missing ones as well. New brake pads, new front rotors (one was warped >0.5 mm) new tires (putting on a 190/50/17 with tire irons is a challenge!), new stainless fuel line disconnects, and an overall cleaning have me back on top. It’s also a dream to ride and has waaaaay too much power, it it’s all great. Thanks for the support and happy riding.

What's this , the BMW is relegated to Daily Driver duty when you have two other bikes? Sacrilege, I say!

J/K...
