Threaded bushing in front wheel carrier, replace ?

Has anyone replaced the threaded bush in the front that the axle screw's in to?

Having the wheel's off for new tyre's up on cleaning everything noticed that the bush is badly worn on the outside as the seal has failed and the dirt under it hade ground the bush surface down.

New seals are ordered but i doubt they will seal againts the bush.

Going to my Bmw reprom there is no mention of that bush other than not to touch it.

So better ask here first if anyone has replaced it or had it loose. It is possible to order it as a spare but there might be some special operations for fitting maybe?

Was more after information regarding the replacement procedure as it is no mention of it in the bmw reprom. Except that one should not loosen the bush.

That's somewhat strange because the parts fiche shows it as an available part (about $38 US)

Re: Threaded bushing in front wheel carrier, replace ?

Yes, and as it is subject to wear in the seal's surface area it would need replacing eventually.
Maybe Bmw dont want anybody but them to do the replacement as it could affect the ABS sensor position, but that would be easily spotted as if incorrect spacing from sensor to sensor ring, it would light up the dash with warnings.

I have sent an mail to Bmw but no answer yet.

Re: Threaded bushing in front wheel carrier, replace ?

I was wondering exactly that just a few days ago; looking to replace the front wheel bearings because of a whine between 45 and 50 mph. Having got the wheel out I noticed some distinct wear on the bush where the seal sits, so I put everything back pending a new bush arriving. I was assuming I could just measure the gap between the inner face of the bush and the fork leg and make sure the new one measures the same when I put it in?
