Metzeler Roadtec 01

I gave my wife my K13 and replacing the the tires from Z8 to 01. Does anyone know if they got more mileage on 01 tires compared to the Z8. I find that I had to replace the Z8 every 3500 miles. The bike has less than 11K miles and I'm already going on the 2nd front and 3rd rear tires.

Re: Metzeler Roadtec 01

Lauro, the 01 is still relatively new and only a few here, that I've seen, have mounted them. My guess is that the jury is still out on this tire. There are a couple threads on it in the forums here.
I just mounted a set on my GSA and will be doing a 7 day trip on them next week.

If memory serves me, Metzeler claims the tire will get some 20% better mileage than the Z8, but we've heard that before haven't we.

Re: Metzeler Roadtec 01

My Z8s are coming toward their final journey with about 2mm tread left front and rear, but they have done a little over 6000 miles - 3500 seems quite low to me. I too am thinking of 01s next, not for longevity, but for their alleged slightly better wet grip. If I get more than 6000 miles out of them too, happy days.

Yes we have. lol. Me and the family will be doing a 3 day ride on Columbus Day weekend from San Francisco down to San Diego and then back to San Francisco. It will be interesting to see how these tires perform.

Yes, they claim that it has better wet weather grip than the Z8 so that was the other deciding factor for the tire change. I ride two up with my now 15 year old son 70% of the time so that might be causing the early wear on the back tires. I am just hoping that the 01 can just give me an extra few miles.

Mounting the 01's today. I'll be headed up to Deals's Gap after the AIM show on Oct 16th. So, a couple thousand miles in the next 3 weeks. I'll report back on my impressions.

Re: Metzeler Roadtec 01

Beecher mounted the 01's for me just before leaving for SGR and I have to say they preformed extremely well. very similar to the pr4's I had had on my r1200rs prior . If anything they turn in a little quicker and I did get to test them in a hail storm on the return trip as we came through Lassen national park and managed to stay vertical. Hail was starting to accumulate in the road and the temp. dropped about 30 degrees until we got through it . I put about 3500 miles on them in 10 days . We'll see how the performance holds up during the second half of their life. Hopefully better than the pr4's who's performance seems to drop off .

Great feedback on the 01's performance. It gives me great confidence on my purchase. I read some reviews in another forum giving it pretty much a bad review based on his personal experience. Most were concerned that the tire is made in China. I have to take those types of review with a grain of salt because so far this tire have been given such great reviews on its performance. We shall see I suppose.

Re: Metzeler Roadtec 01

2800 miles and my Roadtec 01 rear is toast! no sipes left on the outside. The Front Is also toast, though there is tread left, the profile has flatened completely on the left and right sides making them very 'uncomfortable' to ride on.

I had another rear, so slapped that on and will see how it goes.

I liked The Roadtecs, they handled well, gave good grip, but i need more miles out of them!

That's pretty dismal news...
How did that compare to longevity from other tires you've used?

PR4s I got around 4000 miles (with tread left in the front). I ran quite a few sets of PR4 rear and PP3 front with no problems getting about 4000 miles out of each.

I want to try M7RRs and see how they go, but had a 01 to use up.

What bike were the 01's on? The same as the PR4's were on?

Re: Metzeler Roadtec 01

They were, this 1srt set are on my K13S. I also put a rear on my S1000R, but not enough miles on it yet to tell anything.

Getting 3000 miles from the M7RR rear on the S1000R, and about 5000 miles on the front. I ride the S1000 a little more aggressively than the K13.

My 01s have covered just shy of 2500 miles and have a good 5mm of tread to go on the rear, perhaps 4mm on the front
