Stumbling at idle?

2009 with booster plug, K&N air filter and GPR exhaust.
Can't seem to figure out why it's happening - it did the same before I put on the K&N and slip-on (booster plug has been on forever).
I did have the ECU firmware updated at the dealer recently to the newest flash and it seemed to happen after that.
I've been thinking about getting a power commander V with autotune - is that better than the booster plug ? Everyone seems to be happy with just the booster plug...

Thoughts?

Re: Stumbling at idle?

I am going to take a wild guess here....

When they uploaded the new software into the BMSK they probably didn't synchronize the 2 Stepper motors.

Guess 2
Throttle position sensor

Re: Stumbling at idle?

Thanks that's a good start. I'd be surprised though as the guy who worked on it is an older guy who lives and breathes BMW bikes - but it's a dealer so I guess nothing would surprise me. I'll do a search but I'm gone guess that's not something I want to do myself...
Also I found the AF-XIED which looks like a good and cheaper fueling mod and seems to have better reviews on here than the PCV...

Re: Stumbling at idle?

I would ask your dealer to do the software upgrade again to make sure all is okay. Point out the problem and let them test ride the bike. (rethink that K&N air filter set up. )

Re: Stumbling at idle?

My bike had similar issues. I have now unplugged the O2 sensor and the idle is 100% better! Have not tested it extensively yet but fuel economy seems to be improved also.

Re: Stumbling at idle?

Spot, anyone in your neighborhood have a GS-911 to check on the function of your O2 sensor? Might be worth knowing the details.

Re: Stumbling at idle?

And also in the GS911 vein, as noted above perform an idle air control (aka stepper motor) calibration, this should always be done for idle problems. Your dealer can do it too of course.

Re: Stumbling at idle?

Yes. I have a gs911. The O2 plot looked like all the ones on the internet of good O2 sensors.. I also reset the adaptive values and calibrated the idle air control.

Re: Stumbling at idle?

Since new my K13 had trouble on warm days with off idle power. I put on a full Ti exhaust which made things worse. Cold Plug, trips to the dealer, K&N air filters, etc. Nothing worked. On warm days at part throttle it acted like a 500 lb 250 CC bike until the revs got up. Idle was erratic and if I opened the throttle while the revs were falling sometimes the engine just stopped. Finally I spent too much money on a Brentune which made things a little better. A second map from Brentune fixed things completely. I went with Brentune because the Power Commander install looked crazy complex.
Bren says I may have a very small air leak and might not ever find it. Something stupid like a casting flaw or out of round carb clamp. He compensated with a richer mixture while warm at idle. Since the bike runs well now I stopped looking.
Good Luck!
