Re: New 'S' ?

Doubtful BMW will bring out a new 1300 or 1400S, simply because of the success of the 1000 engine in the RR, R and XR. There's a multi-page thread regarding speculation of a new S that's a few years old now with all kinds of opinions but no indication of a new S. The best alternative to the K13S in my opinion is the new Kawasaki H2SX, 200 hp sport tourer with factory bags. Probably run circles around the K13S but has chain drive if that matters to you.

Re: New 'S' ?

The new issue of the Owners News has an article showing a redesigned r1200. The bike looks sleek and reminiscent of the r1100 r1200s series. So it wouldn't surprise me if a new r1200s made an appearance.

Isn't the R1200RS that bike? What would be the difference if they made an R1200S?

After owning a new GS for a couple of years, I kinda have an itch for the RS but I'm going to wait until it gets the new 1250 VVT engine. The thing that would hold me back is that I'm really enjoying the big box panniers that load from the top. I usually camp when I'm on a long trip so giving up that storage flexibility would be in the minus column. In the plus column - sexy boxer sporty bike goodness and sportier ergos than my off-road setup on the GS.

Re: New 'S' ?

The 'S' has always been BMW "Gentleman's sport bike". Wes - think of it as a Super Decathlon - capable aerobatic machine but still goes two-up nicely).
We have a Pitts S-1-S (Grand Champion Pitts and best home built at Oshkosh 2015) and a Super D.

This is the true "gentleman's sport bike"...

Re: New 'S' ?

Well yeah...
I've ridden a few of the 4 cyl. S1000 variants. Just not the same sole as the twin. Ponderous too.

Twins, as THIS forum is dedicated to, have a distinct feel. Less polished. I spent this past week in the mountains of North Carolina splitting time between my R1100S, a Ducati Multistrada and a KTM 1290 Super Duke GT. I liked them all for different reasons. The KTM was pretty bonkers. Hard to ride smoothly. More point and shoot. The multistrada could do nothing wrong - broken pavement, glass smooth pavement, anywhere. However, neither were as easy to ride fast as my R1100S. I'm really keen so see if BMW will be bringing out an S in '19 or '20.

Re: New 'S' ?

Here is a link to a picture of Andrew Serbinski's re-imagined R1200GSM, as he calls it. Yes Wes, it does have features of the RS, but has less bodywork and just looks sleeker.
