Thinking of buying an 07 K12S...

I had a bad experience with the abs on my 05 K12S. The 07 Iím considering has 43,000 miles on it, and no abs failure yet. It looks to have been well cared for with proper maintenance etc. whatís the most miles someone has gone without abs failure? I guess the good news is that this version of abs is able to be worked on by Module Masters.

Thanks guys!

Curt

Re: Thinking of buying an 07 K12S...

The fact that MM can work the abs would give me relief, but what is your bike budget? I’ve seen plenty of K13S’s under 10k miles going for around $9,000 and it’s much improved over the previous model.

Re: Thinking of buying an 07 K12S...

The K13 isnít completely out of the picture, but want to keep my options open. I loved my 05. If I could just replicate that performance I would be very happy. Looks like you can get an 07 for between 3.5-5k. I may not be able to go the extra for the k13. Maybe the k13ís are less in the northeast than in the west. Iíve seen some good opportunities, but not that good. 😀. Thanks Jargon.

Re: Thinking of buying an 07 K12S...

Probably $600 to ship, and I’d bet you selling prices are negotiable.

Wes (Capnrip) bought one on eBay sold by the dealer I used to spend my money at. He had no issues. Matter of fact, he might even go look at this one for you if you asked him nicely.

Re: Thinking of buying an 07 K12S...

To answer your original question, I put 120,000 miles on my first K12S. I serviced it by the book and it ran as always - perfect - until a massive high-side ended its service life... No ABS or related issues...

Wow! Thatís good to know and encouraging. Seems like a lot of these older k12 bikes have just been sitting and sitting, and that is never a good thing. Thanks for the info

Re: Thinking of buying an 07 K12S...

My 07' has 17000 miles and runs perfectly. Its new to me 1 year ago, and its the most comfortable, fun, and well rounded motorcycle I've ever owned. I've had: r1100r, F800st, triumph scrambler, and an old R100.

My 2008 has 62,000 miles. Bought used at 3,000 miles. ABS module failed immediately and replaced under warranty. No problems since. Absolutely great bike. Been all over the west and going again in May. Never sell.

My 2007 R Sportís ABS went belly up within 12000 miles when I went into the BM shop their words ĎHave you been down a pot hole in the roadí and I said yes the reply was ĎTheir notorious for doing ití.

Where it gets complicated with no ABS on the brakes they where sharper than ever and better still they worked completely separate which allows me to even lock the back wheel which I liked because for the first time I had Ďrealí control over the bike,I know a lot of folks donít like that but loved it but itís what iíve Been brought up on.

The problem being the long term diagnosis of running in that condition so I had it fixed which frankly I regret and iím Back to the linked wishy washer feel

Re: Thinking of buying an 07 K12S...

That's very interesting Chris. How did you have back brakes with the ABS out? When my ABS went south I had front brakes only and nothing for the back.
