Curious ship

Ok, I'm a boat guy so forgive me this non-motorcycle thread.
Using a website marinetraffic.com I can track any AIS equipped ship anywhere in the world. I can track the boat I run in Alaska ( when I'm not actually on it, that is ) or anything of interest. In this part of the world, Shell Oil's plan to drill in the arctic is in the news. I am personally in favor of drilling when and where we can so we can argue about that later if you need to; but, out of curiosity I have been tracking the progress of Shell's fleet from Seattle to Dutch Harbor. Spill response barge from Bellingham arrived a few days ago under tow from Corbin Foss. Drill rig Polar Pioneer from Norway via Seattle should arrive any day under tow by two identical 10,880 hp Crowley tugs. 330' ice breaking tug Aiviq is entering harbor in company with 270' rig supply vessel. What has me stumped is AIS is showing the USS Constellation in harbor with Corbin Foss alongside with Coast Guard cutter in attendance. According to wikpedia said decommissioned carrier was towed around Cape Horn from Bremerton, WA to Brownsville Texas to be scrapped arriving Jan 2015. What's it doing in Dutch Harbor and how did it get there? Could be some odd computer quirk I suppose............

Or maybe you have exposed a covert CIA operation.

Re: Curious ship

Figured it out. Was the Corbin Foss that towed the carrier 16,000 miles down around Cape Horn to Texas. Crew switched out in Punta Arenas, Chile. Someone must have taken a souvenir in the form of an AIS transponder, put in in their seabag and now it got turned on. Someone could be in trouble.......

Re: Curious ship

We were following a friends return from the Tampa/Isla Mujeres sail race on the race website. They were getting close to home and my wife was keeping up with their progress. She checked one time and it stated they were doing ~60 knots - SPOT device must have been on in the car .
