Anyone ever dissect a GT heated seat?

Lurked & searched and read some of the seat threads, but...
I feel tempted to dissect & modify the front half of a GT heated seat.
ANY input from the experts here?

Fly n ride from Penn-Bama yesterday seat needs work.

However, I AM spoiled, my other ride is 1150RT (soon to be parted-out-running) with RDL dual and capable of 15 hr days with 13hrs in the saddle!
Don't really want a "winged" seat on the GT though, and trying to save a buck.

thanks, your input is appreciated

Re: Anyone ever dissect a GT heated seat?

There are a couple of issues, initially the wiring for the heated seat could be damaged by removing the cover. Also I've read that the seat pan used by BMW becomes brittle with age, and in some instances the staples used to affix the cover to the pan crack the pan and make it difficult to reattach the seat cover, or worst case make the seat pan unusable. Maybe not a DIY project.

Re: Anyone ever dissect a GT heated seat?

agreed CJ, i certainly need a back-up plan going in, could be a mistake. I was hoping someone had tried it possibly on an old worn out seat. I'd like to keep the Factory Heat, Sargent wants about $700 + for a heated and isnt "compatible" w/BMW OEM set up. Which i find hard to believe. It's a resistive circuit just like a water heater, or just like my DIY heated jacket & pants.
Will continue to study..thanks

Thumbs up Re: Anyone ever dissect a GT heated seat?

I use a BMW GT seat and it is very nice. I like it better than heated grips.
Its like Grand Ma's Dearborn heater when I was young

Re: Anyone ever dissect a GT heated seat?

I have a Corbin on my GT, original is boxed up . I keep mine but there could be someone on the forum willing to part with an OEM seat. Good back up plan if the price is permitting.
