S1000XR - Showroom Pictures

Hey Guys, there is a BMW S1000XR doing the rounds of all the BMW Motorcycle dealers in Australia. I managed to catch the bike at BikeBiz Granville (our Australian Rally Supporter) and took some valuable pictures to give you guys a real idea of the size and feel of this bike.
The sales manager Scott was happy to model for me on the bike, he said he rode it in Portugal with BMW and really loved the bike. This is the only bike in Australia so nobody gets to ride it, but it did make it to Eastern Creek (Sydney Motorsport Park) at some stage and the pictures of the tyres are evidence that the far edge of the tyre is fair game and somebody rode the bike close to its limits.
First impressions is, this is not a small bike, its quite impressive and when you see the pictures of me and scott on it, remember that we are both 6Ft tall, to give an idea of size. The seating position is very comfortable and you could easily do some serious distance riding on this machine.
This bike feels light too, seems to have a low centre of gravity.
Build quality look excellent as we expect from BMW.
If you were over the Sports bikes seating position, but not ready for a GS yet, this is perfect, in fact, as an all round everyday, its perfect.
Other bonuses are 20litre tank, about 210kg Dry,
Anyway, have a look at the pictures. I really like this bike now i have sat on it.

cheers
Kiwimat

Sturdy looking side stand, centre stand already on the bike.

Re: S1000XR - Showroom Pictures

Thanks for the post . Great to see some real pictures outside of a studio.

When I was at the dealer last week in the UK I was talking to the sales guy about a new purchase at the end of the season (over here that's October time). I am looking potentially for something for the 250 mile office commute to replace the KR. I would buy a new model KS but he eluded that it wasn't looking likely. He suggested trying the XR, GS and R1200RS at that point.

Maybe it is just me but I tend to be a 'love at first sight' kinda guy with cars and bikes. The KR was exactly that, as was the HP4. I just can't get on with a vehicle if I don't have that attraction to it, same with cars. So the new sthou, no, XR, no, R1200RS no, GS no. Just something missing... Maybe I need to go over to the dark side? . Maybe I'm getting too old and too fussy .

Hey Andy, I get the love at first site thing with the K1300R. I remember seeing my first red K1300r in the showroom and never realized just how big and impressive the bike is until I stood next to one. Even if your not too keen on the stying of the XR, or don't like it at all, when you get up close with one, you can see it's not just a Jap bike ripoff.
I think the R1200RS in person in the showroom is going to be a knockout, make a few weak at the knees and stir feelings between the legs......
Both these bikes come with all the ESA , cruise, shift assist, etc etc.....

BUT......imagine buying one of these, and then trading it for half the price because the new K1300 with all the other bikes options had just been released....... Now I'm just being mean...LOL.....
I don't believe in god, but I do believe there will be a K1300 series II. Must be blind faith...LOL
Anyway, wether you stay with BMW or go to the darkside, there are some very nice motorcycles on the horizon from all angles.

Cheers

Exactly the problem. I wish BMW would come out of the closet so some of us could make some decisions. On paper the XR ticks so many boxes for me....

I'm glad I have such important things to worry about .

From a distance who'd know if it was a BMW or MTS?

Bmw should take a lesson from Ducati in how to mount panniers without pipes.

Re: S1000XR - Showroom Pictures

Hi Mat,
Thanks for taking the time to take the pictures and post.
Not my cup of tea. The 800 GS I have is tall enough and powerful enough for my off pavement adventures. One bike with a chain is enough.
Looks to me that BMW has decided the 1000 engine is their platform of the future.
So I plan to take care of my 1300S and ride it for many years.
Just my $A 2 cents.
Cheers,
Pete

Re: S1000XR - Showroom Pictures

looks the biz and great pics, thanks for sharing.

seems all the big brands are bringing out out a road orientated adventure bike. I've ridden a couple of multy's but find them uncomfortable and two narrow for my liking. I would not mind a go on the new Aprilia Caponord as I like Aprilia's.

Re: S1000XR - Showroom Pictures

As much as I like em' naked the XR's Tupperware is far from objectionable and very well thought out. And I like the rise on the XR bars over the flatter S1000R's as well as it affording handguards with the purchase price. It would be nice if the empty 'dock' for the VERY pricey GPS option also fit more modestly priced Garmin GPS models. The popular $120 to $350 'nuvi' line available through several 'big box' retailers for example.

The prices on the wc R1200 are simply exploitative. Especially if I must give up telelever on their sportier 1200R/RS. If that is how BMW retains the R line it's their call. I'm just checking boxes if they forever discontinue the brilliant bike they have in the K series.

Thanks for the pics Matt

Re: S1000XR - Showroom Pictures

I really wanted to like the XR more than I did after a couple minutes sitting on one at the Motorcycle Show. The U-shape of the seat is such that I felt I was locked into only a single position, no wiggle room front to back. I can't picture a more flat aftermarket seat offering much in improvement with the way the rider seat transitions to the pillion.
