Givi or OEM cases

I have a '01 K12RS that came with both L&R BMW cases. I was looking at the Givi Mono set-up for a top case. If I use the Givi rear mount system, will that be compatible with the BMW side luggage, or should I find a large liter BMW top case?

Compatible fit wise.

I have system side cases and a 28 liter Givi topcase.

Plenty of room.

Re: Givi or OEM cases

One very early dark morning I did not attach the BMW right bag to the lower bracket. I drove approximately 10 miles on the Staten Island Expresswway (total misnomer) over the Verrazzano Bridge and onto the Belt Parkway. A humped up expansion joint caused a hard hit. I was in the left lane doing 60 or so mph when the bag came off. It traveled across 2 lanes of trafic and stopped at the guard rail. My 17" lap top that just fits was in the bag. Both lap top and bag survived - lap top unscathed. The bag took some hard hits with scratches, no cracks, and was totally serviceable other than cosmetics. The bag suffered an abrasion hole from rubbing against the tire for the 10 miles or so. Hole covered using 3M eletrical tape and Gorilla duct tape. Still waterproof and have been using it for numerous years.

Left bag had one of the locking mechanisms on the outer shell break off. I still use the bag with only one lock. I contribute overloading the bag on more than one occaision to the cause.

I'm happy with the BMW bags.

Givi’s mount rack system for the k1200RS (p/n 680F) does not interfere with your system cases. You’ll have to remove the little “luggage rack” behind the seat for the Givi plate. Keep the OEM rack — the next buyer may want it.

Take a look at Shad as well. Their mount doesn’t interfere and they make a lot of the OEM cases. I’ve got the 58x on my 03 GT and love it.
