FirstGear Kiliminjaro 37.5 Feedback

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the new FirstGear Kiliminjaro 37.5? I need a new jacket and although the Klim Latitude comes highly recommended the difference between the Kili and the Klim is almost $300 CAD. From what I've read the Kiliminjaro seems to be a very good jacket - with venting being a possible issue. Any thoughts out there?

Re: FirstGear Kiliminjaro 37.5 Feedback

Ross, I can only speak to my older Kilimanjaro jacket which has served me quite well for at least 10+ years. First of all the thing is just about indestructible! Aside from the "red" color fading through the years it shows very little wear. While extreme hot weather venting can be an issue ( 90 F or higher), the jacket works well at least 90% of the time. Riding in temps of 30 F is really no problem with a sweatshirt worn with the liner. Would I buy another? As soon (?) as this one wears out, oh yeah! Klim makes good stuff, but as Bob Dylan said, "Money doesn't talk......IT SCREAMS!" Good luck!

Re: FirstGear Kiliminjaro 37.5 Feedback

We've had good luck with Firstgear product but I have no experience with the 37.5.
Watching the review it appears to have very little venting.

I have a Klim Latitude and Debbie has the women's version.
For us the Latitude does not vent enough air for riding in temps above 90 F.
Our biggest complaint is we can't get any air up the sleeves when riding a R1200RS.

Re: FirstGear Kiliminjaro 37.5 Feedback

Thanks for the feedback. I've had a FG Kiliminjaro for several years now, probably 10+, and had very good service. As I ride mostly in Alberta cold protection was paramount and this jacket worked well for that. I even used it snowmobiling and was good to -20C with the right base layers.
I like Firstgear kit and this new jacket looks like a pretty good step up. The only thing it may lack is an abundance of venting but I'm sure it can't be any worse than my current jacket that I have worn at 35C - not comfortably but I have worn it.
