Question Coolant dripping out of breather tube....

Haven't ridden the bike for a few days but noticed coolant dripping out of the coolant breather tube.

Re: Coolant dripping out of breather tube....

Breather tube? There is an overflow tube at the tank under the seat if that is what you mean?

Yeah mine overflowed a couple times.Broken thermostat. However the gauge wasn't acting normally so that gave me some clues.Broken prong on the thermostat so that kept it open some and took longer than normal for the gauge to show normal operating temps and needle wasn't stable.

So thermostat stayed open some but also didn't fully open and overflowed twice. Both times after descending from some rather big hills....!

Thumbs up Re: Coolant dripping out of breather tube....

Good ideas.

What is puzzling is that the drip didn't start until a few days after the bike had been last ridden.

I've ordered a new radiator cap as mine is a 2002 model and their caps have a history of going bad.

Re: Coolant dripping out of breather tube....

2002? Have the radiators ever been cleaned? Them fins sure are a good grits, tar and bug crap trap.

Don't powerwash or hose them from the back/fan side. All that did to my bike is to send crap at the fan motors shafts and caused one to seize.Fixed that one but also took the other one apart to clean the little graphite seals and bronze shaft bearing before that one also seized.

My radiator cap now has 266,000 kms.Growing attached to it.....cleaned up last winter and passes my cooling system pressure test.
