Re: How I came to own a K13S

Good day folks! I've had the K13 for a few weeks now and have put about 3k miles on it. Here are a few more observations.

ASC - I'm glad I have it! I turned it off and in the right (wrong) conditions the bike needs it. You can get the front wheel off the ground and you can power slide the bike. Not good things for everyday riding. I am really glad the bike comes with it.

ESA - Sucks for a fat man! I will be putting my rebuilt Wilbers on sooner than later. The ESA high speed damping is way too hard and the low speed damping is way too soft. I cannot wait to put the Wilbers back on to smooth out the choppy roads and make cornering easier. The ESA is completely opposite of what I like while riding.

Exhaust - I'm torn. Really, this has been the hardest decision that I have had to make so far. I thought I would rip out the OEM immediately but I like the sound. The looks, they suck, but I cannot get over how much I like the relative quiet while riding. But, I think the OEM exhaust is hindering top end speed and that will be the deciding factor.

Overall, a great purchase and I am happy to own it.

Re: How I came to own a K13S

Joe, I just had my Wilber's tuned at a local race shop even though they came from Ted Porter's 'set up' for me. The techs said they were close, but they tweaked them. Let me say, the difference was noticeable. Maybe your guru guy does suspension tuning?

I've done three separate things to improve the handling, and boy, the bike is FINALLY starting to behave. I've got the riser plates ready to go as a fourth tweak.

I agree, get rid of that POS ESA. I don't want you to feel bad about sending your old shocks to the landfill, so I'm willing to give you $50 for the worthless suckers

Joe: Trust me. Remus hexcone. I've had Remus exhaust on every K-bike I've ever owned. I like the titanium hex on OXCART3, my black-on-black-on-black 13. ISYN (I s**t you not).

Only problem with a 13 is it takes you half a state to figure out that you are lost.

Wish you were riding with the Fools on the run to Weaverville.

Re: How I came to own a K13S

+1 with Paughco. However, I would go with the AC- Schnitzer(Remus rebrand). The Black can would be slick and the sound is similar to stock with the baffle in.. Plus.. you can choose the version with no cat and I believe you get 5 extra ponies as result. From my reading, the REMUS/AC-S is the only slip-on that will give you that HP benefit.

Remus or AC is the way to go. Looks, sounds, and maybe performs better than OEM.

I agree...the sound of the Remus is simply intoxicating. Get it!

Nice ride BTW! Are we gonna see you at SGR again, anytime soon?

Joe, +1 on the AC Schnitzer/Remus. With no cat and the baffle in it sounds just right

Re: How I came to own a K13S

Thanks for the input guys. I just put a Remus Hexacone on. Considered the AC Schnitzer but couldn't justify the additional $400. I absolutely love the "bark" of the quickshifter! Sounds mean!

Funny you should say that, but with the old bike my wife always had the garage door open when I was pulling into the driveway. With the OEM, I snuck in without her knowing.

Traded it in. It had a bad 2nd gear so I took a little hit but I didn't feel right selling it to some unsuspecting buyer. The dealer wholesaled it right away.

Great Joe! To see that color in person..about four different plays on black. NICE.
Also..I am somewhat familiar with the "new bike owner wall" at Gulf Coast Cycles..that I can see in the background of your pics?
