NON ethanol gas

Recently Stewart Shops, a chain of convenience stores in eastern NY and Vermont has begun offering premium gas (91 octane) with no ethanol. There are enough locations for me to ride around and with little planning use only non ethanol gas. I'm on my 4th fill-up and my gas mileage has increased by 2.5 mpg. If you're in this area here's a listing.

NON ethanol gas

If you ride eastern NY or Vermont, Stewarts Shops now has non ethanol gas (91 octane) in many locations.

There is a station near my home that sells non-ethanol gas. My bike seems to prefer it.

Wow, that sucks. I assumed ethanol free gas was widely available.
I use it in my mower, generator... And in my bikes when I can.

I was a little shocked to find it Oregon and Cali when I was out there on a ride 4-5 years ago. The attendant said locals use it for power equipment.

...and yes, you will realize better fuel economy with all-gas vs 10/15 alky!

Re: NON ethanol gas

A few years ago I had a Moto Guzzi LeMans, which has a fiberglass tank. The word was that ethanol-laced gas caused the tank to swell, sometimes so much that it impeded the rotation of the handlebars. That was something that I wanted to avoid. So that pure gas.com site was a big help.

RaceTrack stations in GA are beginning to have nonethanol gasoline in the pumps. My '99 R1100S dyno'd 3 BHP higher with nonethanol gas a year ago. Got the graphs to prove it.

I used the Pure Gas for awhile. Then said 'who cares' and now just buy premium gas. Bike runs fine even if there is a little ethanol in there now and then.

Re: NON ethanol gas

This thread gave me the idea that I'd seek it out in Massachusetts. But Massachusetts has no ethanol-free pump gas, period. One of the websites says there's no law regarding this in Massachusetts, but I think they're mistaken. I think there is a law that there has to be an oxygenator (at least some seasons) either ethanol or that poisonous one (MBTE?) that was contaminating ground water, and now the latter is banned.

During my goog search, found an editorial in the Cape Cod Times or similar from a politician/lying industry whore going on and on about ethanol is not bad for your boat engine. New Hampster has ethanol-free 91 octane pump gas, but only up near Canada, not near Mass. Hosers.

But hey, E10 is a compromise, the industry is very powerful and wants to force E15 on all motor vehicles of any age and E85 on carmakers. Crazy stuff. I wish I had invented a ridiculous snake oil and then had the government both subsidize it and require its use by law.

Re: NON ethanol gas

My understanding of why we don't see non-ethanol fuel in these parts is due to EPA regulations. The EPA considers our area to be a "high-pollution region" because of our proximity to metropolitan centers like NYC and Philly. Refineries in high-pollution areas are not permitted to produce non-ethanol fuels.

Re: NON ethanol gas

I had hoped that Trump would help kill ethanol but he has not. Nothing good about it and it is a very inefficient use of land and water for something with low energy density.

I stopped at a Stewart's a couple of times in NYS this summer and found the pure gas, always nice to find. At one stop, in Esperance, NY, a woman, late teens / early 20's with her parents on their way to a lake in two vehicles with a boat, looked at my bike, a 2007 K1200GT, and said she loved it, how much are they? I said used, not very expensive. I told her I had left Cape Cod that morning, it was 11 and I would be in Syracuse before 1pm. She liked the fact that it looked fast and went long distances. We need more young folks that think travel like that is cool.

There are a few non ethanol stop in northern Vermont, Hardwick and East Burke come to mind.

If you are in Troy, NY there may be a non ethanol gas station not to far away from Max BMW. I have not been to Max BMW for some time ( 1 year +) so not 100% sure of availability. You can always stop at Max, check things out and ask.

Driving home from AZ I found a station with ethanol free gas but it was a dollar more than regular so, although tempted, I bought regular. Couldn't justify paying $2.99 a gallon for ethanol free gas when regular was 2 bucks a gallon.

Re: NON ethanol gas

I buy non ethanol gas all winter because I never now how long the bike will be in the non riding zone. When in Canada I love their 94 octane liquid gold. Really notice the difference. I remember in the 60's when yo could get Standard Oil (chevron) 103 octane. Never had a vehicle that could use it though. The white pump.
