Love those Angel GTs!

Metzler M3 came off today (rear mostly done at 2900 miles), and a new set of Pirelli Angel GT's went on. 2015 K1300s.

Now it's always nice to get a new set of tires on, but I wasn't expecting that much difference! Not only does the bike lean with confidence at any angle, the tires seem softer on the bumps too. I'm having to un-correct my steering corrections adapted to the M3's with the new ease of low-speed cornering.

Looking forward to some aggressive cornering.

Re: Love those Angel GTs!

Im well and truely sold on the pirelli angel GT's too.
These tyres have a sharper angle in the middle which makes the bike drop down into a corner quicker, and they flatten out towards the edge giving a larger contact patch when leaning over, which makes the bike feel more planted on the road when your on the edge of the tyre.
Long mileage, great in the wet too, im going to keep putting these tyres on my K1300R.

Cheers

Re: Love those Angel GTs!

Craig, you have gone from the worst tyre to the best tyre so there is no going back

The GT's are expensive tyres here in Oz but I will not be buying anything else until something better come along.

Re: Love those Angel GTs!

I recently noticed my front Q3 is getting thin, already!

I absolutely love everything about the Q3's except their service life, cost per mile ratio.
I did find them 'on sale' for $104; but also found the Shinko "Verge" for $75.

Any feedback out there on the Shinko "Verge" to be offered?

Re: Love those Angel GTs!

I bought a bike last fall that the PO had put a new Shinko Podium on the rear. The front needed replacing so I did some research and discovered that the Shinko was well liked by some experienced riders. So I bought one for the front for about $80. They seem to perform pretty well although I have not ridden them extensively.

Nice Craig, where did you get them installed. Have over 2100 miles on my bike and they still have good wear left.

I had them shipped to a mechanic I know in Apache Junction. He's done work on my bikes for years now.

He charged me $80 to mount and balance them. As it was the first time he did this on a K1300, he ended up having to make a mount for the rear wheel to put it on the balancer. Also had to figure a way to jack up the front end to get that wheel off. Took a while, but next time it will be easier/faster.

He lives in Arizona in the winter, but moves to Pennsylvania in the summer to work at a bike shop there. Very good guy, very experienced. (Used to be City of Phoenix mechanic until he retired.)

Re: Love those Angel GTs!

I just put a new set on my 2014 K1300S. The previous set had a bit over 13,000 miles on them with what looked like another 1500-2000 miles left. Admittedly they were mostly commuting miles splitting lanes up the 5 fwy in Los Angeles, but the Angel STs only lasted for 10,000 miles on my old 2001 Sprint ST before showing cords. I figured with the increased power of the K1300S vs the 955 Sprint it would be a wash. Sprint had 108hp/76ft-lbs so with 70 more HP and 27ft-lbs more torque the Angel GTs still outlasted the STs. I'm also pretty sure I would have roasted the STs in 7000 miles on the K1300S.

Re: Love those Angel GTs!

I'm in Tennessee now, traveled about 2000 miles on the new tires and you can still see part of the GT that is molded into the center of the tread on the rear tire. I'd post a picture but this forum won't accept pictures from my iPhone.

I'm surprised. I'd be happy - ecstatic - with half that.

I have 1000 miles on my GT's now, and so far they look OK. Definitely better than the M3's did, but I'd guess maybe 5000 miles and I'll hit the wear bars. Time will tell.

I was at the dealer this week, and their service guy said people were getting 4000-5000 miles out of them on a K1300s.

My rear has 1500 miles on it now, and it looks to be 1/3rd worn, so I'm thinking 5000 miles.

Re: Love those Angel GTs!

Got a set on my K1600GTL and on my Aprilia Dorsoduro. Was looking for more then 5000 miles on the GTL and more then 3000 on the Dorsoduro. about 1500 on the GTL still look new except GT imprint gone. The DD has less then a 1000 on it hard to tell with that one.
