Watching Evel Live

Evel Live on the History Channel right now. Travis Pastrana will be making 3 of Evel's jumps on an Indian Scout customized by Roland Sands.

I grew up idolizing Evel very cool show.

Re: Watching Evel Live

On my DVR to watch tomorrow. His Dad's a neighbor of mine and he just lives about 10 miles away:

That's the side of Lyn-Z and one of their daughters in the photo with me. Travis, his Dad, and I romped all over his trails and back lot filming area one day last summer.

This is his idea of taking his kids outside to play:

He's still got the ramp back there that they used to do the world's only triple back flip on a motorcycle:

His Dad says that Travis has been batshit crazy since he was a little kid when he tried to do back flips on his bicycle into the creek. But his dad built him the ramp to try it

That was fun. I watched it all. Brings back bicycle stunting agony of the 70s.

It did bring back memories but it was nothing like watching it back in the day when we never seen anything like it.

Watching Pastrana make the jumps - well it was not the same excitement - you just knew he was going to make them and you knew he has done way more dangerous stunts.

None the less a very cool walk down memory lane.

SPOILER ALERT,

if you just want to watch the jump attempts without all the surrounding hype and commentary, here you go, I'm not embedding the video so as to not reveal what you might want to be surprised about, but here's the link, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIQj708tWxU

Yeah three hours of hype for less than 3 minutes of action was a bit much. An ad execs dream though.

Re: Watching Evel Live

There's a lot of very talented X-games folks out there but there's not much doubt that he's done as good a job as anyone (Shaun White?) of monetizing and marketing his extreme sports life. The Nitro Circus is a brilliant bit of marketing and he told me last year that the Nitro World games last year exceeded all the TV viewer expectations so would happen again this year. Sure enough, it's coming in September.

He's kind of a Opie clean cut goofy shy guy in person... with a gate off his back deck that is a 30' drop into his swimming pool. Batshit crazy.

I see his dad all the time riding his Harley in a tee-shirt, shorts, and sandals and he makes fun of me in all my riding gear.

Re: Watching Evel Live

I wonder what Evel Knievel would be doing if he was a young man now. Probably crazier stuff than the rest of these guys!
