Gas pouring out vent tube when filled
Just inherited my fater-in-laws (mkem) k1200rs. He had an issue that we thought was fixed. When the bike is run and you fill up to 5he top, close the gas cap, it starts splitting gas out of the vent tube. I know the filters have been replaced, etc.
. Any ideas what could cause the pressure to build enough to pour out the tube? Thx in adavance

Re: Gas pouring out vent tube when filled
Yea, common overfill! Especially placed on its side stand in the heat.

Re: Gas pouring out vent tube when filled
Particularly if the engine is hot, and compounded if its a hot day, gasoline when hot will expand, and parking the bike on its side stand doesn't help if its hot. Don't fill to the very top.

Re: Gas pouring out vent tube when filled
The football shaped "float" attached to the vent pipe is probably sitting too low in the tank.
Easy to bend the pipe when reinstalling the filler flange, that thing is hard to install particularily as one tries to keep the gasket in place. Fix? I pulled the fuel gauge out and used a pry bar to push the float/vent pipe up against the top of the tank. Full to the brim on sidestand?Haven't seen a drop out of the pipe in years. And yes it did pour before I fixed it.Enough to fill a tuna can in a few minutes.

Re: Gas pouring out vent tube when filled
Thx all. Never had an issue with my previous krs. I will look at these options. At least I dont mind the smell of gas coming from the garage. Gotta love the KRS head scratchers. Almost forgot what it was like

Re: Gas pouring out vent tube when filled
Another possibility is the float which is made in two halves and can split at the horizontal seam. I know this - it would fill Pierre's tuna can in seconds on a hot day! Once it splits, with a full tank the fuel expands on a hot day and quickly fills the float with fuel. A closed fuel cap will allow it to syphon out the drain tube. Opening the fuel cap will stop the flow immediately but the long term fix is to repair the float with fuel resistant glue or replace the float.
