Re: K bike, still own one, or what do your ride now?

My 2014 K1300S MS, bought in December 2016, is just back under warranty for 'hot start' fix.

Spent a week on a loan R1200R - great punch out of slow corners, but happy to hand it back; two pots just ain't enough.

Meanwhile, I've been using my 1997 K1200RS Taxi - still running like a Bentley after 55,000 miles and 21 years - they don't make 'em like that anymore.

Yep - 120K on my 98' - still running strong. Smokes a bit on startup which I can't understand cause I babied that thing from day one

I still ride my 2007 K1200S. Had to get the transmission rebuilt at 25k miles. Got around to updating the airbox and then flashed the ECU with BrenTuner to get it all sorted. I ride it daily to work.

Re: K bike, still own one, or what do your ride now?

I have retired from riding at age 82 earlier this year....The kids pestered me to death.
I had two K75s and consider them the smoothest bikes ever. I now have a pristine 1999 Mazda Miata and it assuages my withdrawal from biking nicely.

I liked the choices before they were screwed with. I was one of the choice 7's and indeed actually still have a K-bike, not "other bike". I believe it originally said, "I have so many bikes it doesn't really matter" which is true with many others keeping the K company.

Yeah, the OP's intent was 'changing' K demographic and where people are. In this case, #7 was a duplicate of #2, thus it results in an inaccurate representation - hence the subtle change. Regardless, we'll hybrid #7 to your liking to keep everyone 'happy' . We're all about keeping folks happy @ the loving I-BMW.com even with inaccurate voting tallies...

Damn, and to think I figured that my opinion meant less than the janitor around here.

Sadly, my K and I are at a decision point. I still love my bike but it appears that the main seal may be starting to leak. It makes little to no sense to spend much money on the bike, and without the time and/or know how to make the fix, it appears that it might be time to be moving on.

I own a 2003K1200RS that I bought new. To satisfy my urge to buy something different, I just ordered a low mileage 2007 R1200S! I am expecting delivery in two days.

Re: K bike, still own one, or what do your ride now?

Every once in a while I get the itch for something different but when I go out in the garage and see that K13 or when I take it for a ride I realize what a damn nice bike it is and I'm lucky to have it. Would like to have a second bike with a little more off-road capability (and perhaps a third?) but that's an internal home issue... I only have so much time to ride anyway.

Re: K bike, still own one, or what do your ride now?

Bought my 04 K- GT in 2008. Only BMW I've owned so can't give opinion on other BMWs.
Gave some thought to something newer but only have space for one bike.
Love it,keepin' it.

A side benefit is it led me to this site. Many wonderful people hang here

I barely used my K1600 GTL for any long distance rides, so I decided to sell it and replace it with a HP4 which suits me better for my local riding.

As much as I laughed at Vics response to your question... You DO deserve an answer.

Years ago, we had a very active Jomomma and it was very active, sometimes over enthusiastic political posts. Well, the BLPD means "Bush Lied, People Died". It is a sarcastic response which many of us chuckle at... somewhere along the line, it just became part of every poll throughout the site. It is added by people of all political ideologies so it's more just humor to those of us who used to joust quite regularly in Jomomma.

I hope this helps.

I've had my share of "K" bikes, but will no longer entertain one. The perfect stable for me is exactly whats in it now! I possibly will upgrade to a WC GSA at some point. The Tuono Factory is to me far far better than any "K" bike available in the market place.

Looks like it might be time then to moderate the GS sub sections here on a 'K' bike site I suppose

2009 K1300s original owner. 33K for miles. First 20K was a learning curve love/hate relationship. Long wheel base and para lever suspension woes. Don't think I'll ever part with it now. I'd like to add a 2012 Aprilla RSV4 in Pussy Magnet Yellow to my garage. Factory color!

Welcome to the site. That Orient Blue is practically invisible to LEO. I had a K1200RS in that color for a few weeks until I walked into a dealer and a used Taxi cab was there. I had to have it. Called a friend and asked if he wanted my blue bike, he needed to make a decision right then. He did. I bought the yellow dream machine.

Re: K bike, still own one, or what do your ride now?

I've seen the taxi edition, like the look! The BMW & BUELL are two completely different bikes, for the long rides I take the K bike, for canyon carving I use the S3T, I would post picks of the dynamic duo but I'm finding it a bit of a challenge, website is asking for a URL, what happened to right click, copy and paste, am I that far behind everyone else?

Re: K bike, still own one, or what do your ride now?

Yup. '98 K1200RS that I got used in '05 with 7500 miles on it.
It's up to the mid 60 thousand mark now. Still goes ok.

Also an SV650 naked for neighborhood work.

Mashed my right side Medial Fibular Canula this spring doing yard work.
Going through the Pirate rehab all this summer, though no hardware involved.
Pushed it too hard at the Longbeach Kite Festival and I'm back on crutches at present.

So, no miles on the K this year. Got out a bit on the SV before the relapse.

Re: K bike, still own one, or what do your ride now?

do I miss the k, nope, was a hell of a ride, but the terrible shift crashing bothered me, as did the fuel gauge failures, back brake was not impressive, the tight unwavering frame was super,
i may ride again, who knows had a stroke 6/2016 was paralyzed but coming right, never have full use clutch hand, may try gs if i do ride again lower cog
besides cops are impossible here license would last a day, plus bloody roos are everywhere

I test rode a KTM Duke 690 yesterday. Going over in my mind whether making a supermono type track bike would be worth the $$, time and effort.
70hp, 300 pounds of fun.

KTM is sexy, bit do you really want a single cylinder bike? Really? Why not test the awesome s1000f by Suzuki.

I have a current overwhelming curiosity for lightweight bikes. The 690 Duke is 320-330 pounds. Removing the cat and lights may make it sub 300# for the track.

Re: K bike, still own one, or what do your ride now?

I’ve had my 660 Yamaha SM for nearly 10 years I love riding it,it’s basic riding at its best the first hurdle you have to get over is ditch the mentality of ‘What can the bike do for you’ because the reality is if you logic to going faster is just opening the throttle you’ll be going nowhere and it’s all about what you can do for the bike.

I do a run to mid Wales it’s 190 mile round trip I take a friend with me who had never been we get to cafe sat down having a drink he tells me ‘Your brake lights ain’t working’ which causes much hilarity among the others as they know the whole deal is corner speed and touching the brakes is not a luxury I have

The next problem is the fact most single cylinder engines do not produce enough HP to pull you out of bed there is the temptation to look for more HP the easy route is via a KTM and it works they also go bang at some cost and there is the dilemma.

I run my XT with Aprillia wheels/discs/radial front brake/extra air filter Power Commander various carbon body work even still with various stripped off it needs to go on a diet but the big plus I know the odds are it ain’t going to go bang

The fun you have is riding a bike absolutely flat out which is highly unlikely you will ever do with a big HP bike and it’s just down your ability to make it faster.

Anyone can go fast on a big bike, but making a smaller bike go fastest is another thing again.
