Re: Best Marque Dealership Service

its not about Marques its about individual shops, both BMW N Houston and Lone Star are excellent BMW shops and Advanced Motor Sports up in Alvarado is a fantastic Ducati shop (Jeff Nash) if you are unfamilar he was beating Ducati Factory teams as a privateer.

I agree , it's not the Marques it's the people , Ducati and BMW are the best examples of good products that bad people can ruin .

I can tell you I recently had the worst experience EVER at ANY dealership with a new BMW dealership in Houston. Now they are going to try and undo all the carnage and make me happy at their other location. So, I'm holding judgement right now. But in the past the Honda dealers I've dealt with were as good as the BMW ones.

Re: Best Marque Dealership Service

That is a difficult question to answer. I have dealt with most the mentioned Brands, including the dealers and the manufacturers. In all cases each brand had their good and bad dealers ..... As most have already stated, its about the people at the shop and their customer service skills.

Re: Best Marque Dealership Service

I had a string of Honda's before my first BMW and they were all fine bikes (especially the CBR1000F). But when you walked into the dealership, you better have money in your hand or you will be invisible! Hell, if you walk into Morton's BMW just to look, they'll offer you a cup of joe and just talk about bikes for awhile.

Re: Best Marque Dealership Service

i suspect the HD dealership rating are going to go up.......

routine maintenance was never that expensive

most of the car dealerships in this area have been offering oil changes...
routine mantenance.....sometimes brakes & even tyres for the life
of a new car......1st owner

now HD lifetime routine maintenance...Gratis !!!
a reasonable incentive

bmw cars....3 years no pay

wish it were the bikes !!!!!!!

Agreed! I don't think we have a truly stellar dealership here in Hampton Roads. My steadily growing displeasure with my local BMW dealer has me thinking more about the 2.5hr ride to Morton's...

Anyhow... I still love the bike. Just don't like dealing with the people who should enjoy dealing with those of us who enable them to make a living...

I agree with others stating that it's not the dealership marque but the dealership itself. I've had a multitude of bikes from different makers over the years and each relationship with the dealership associated with it's bike was somewhat different. Some were good, others were terriible.

IMHO: BMW Las Vegas should get some major kudos here.
Management change, attitude change, service committment change. All for the better.

Re: Best Marque Dealership Service

I have no idea, but I can say very good things about Carolina BMW/Triumph in Greensboro, NC, and also about Charlotte BMW Ducati Triumph, in Charlotte, NC.

Sometimes, I take my bikes (BMW / Ducati / Triumph) to the HD garage here, and I have a very good reason for doing so, for a safety inspection. They have been real good to me there, also.

It all comes down to the people in those dealerships---including the customers. If you like Hondayamakawazukis, but don't really like hanging around a lot of young hero squids, then maybe you belong on a different bike, sold in a very different kind of shop, and it has been my experience that the BMW shops, for example, are very different; more professional, knowledgable, and more interested in good customer service.

I got my BMW at a particular shop because I had met the certified factory technician there out on a bike ride, and had a good feeling about the place from the beginning.

If you do not like the shop, or the people there, stay far away from it...buying the bike of your dreams there may end up being a very bad decision. If you have never been to a particular shop, but you think you may want to go there, get advice from friends who are good customers there, and have them pre-introduce you. It lets the shop personnel know you are not just another tire kicker.

I agree it is the people who make the difference, not the brand(s) they represent.

The folks at Chicago BMW are friendly and took time to answer all my questions. (I am one of those who carries a notebook w/questions thought beforehand.)

They even allowed checking their shop, usually a no-no in some dealers, even if supervised. The shop techs, and the parts folks, followed suit with those on the sales floor. Favorably impressed.

Re: Best Marque Dealership Service

I'm really suprised by the results, but I guess its more a reflection of people's ownership history than reality. I have never heard as many horror stories of dealerships that I have heard since buying a BMW. I can think of lots of possible reasons why, including expectations, but it is suprising. And yet the poll has it the best marque? odd. I have owned bikes from most of the major manufacturers, and I hate to say it but when it comes to both factory support and dealership general support I thinnk harley does the best job of it - they do support their products and their customers local or otherwise.

Why the surprise? This is a BMW forum, so you have to assume that most people that come here are owners or at least interested in owning one. On any forum dedicated to one marque there is almost always going to be some bias. Sure, people that have problems will come looking for solutions, but most that have had severe problems have moved on.

I have owned other brands (never a Harley) and feel I have a better connection with my BMW dealer than any other dealer that I have dealt with. Maybe it is my age, maybe it is luck, but it is a fact. Obviously others here have had different experiences than you....the poll results show that.

I also have friends and clients that own other brands and have heard both good and bad relationships with their dealers. Some think one brand is the best while others think the same brand sucks. It is all about personal experience.

I know of two that would own nothing but Harley's yet they have had lemons. According to them, their dealer tried his best, but corporate kept stalling and making accusations trying to place blame or claim it wasn't their problem. One went to arbitration and the other ended up suing, so Harley isn't perfect.

I am not a Harley hater as they do have their own place and have helped with general motorcycle awareness. They also have some great marketing/branding and a strong dealer network (very visible as you travel about the US) and high customer loyalty.

Yes, IMHO, BMW could learn a lot from Harley in marketing and maybe even in how to treat their dealers and customers, but not how to design or produce a motorcycle. I can see their appeal to many, but not me. To each his own.

Re: Best Marque Dealership Service

Oh don't get me wrong. I no longer own a harley (though I like some of their models), and I've personally had what I'd consider a pretty average experience with my BMW dealer. Not particularly better or worse than others. The suprise for me was that so commonly - on this forum of owners - whenever the phrase "I went to my dealer for this issue" is raised there is a slew of responses really slamming the typical BMW dealership - almost like some urban legend warning. It must be a vocal few, but as a forum reader with only a year of BMW ownership and not much direct experience it leaves an impression I guess.

Re: Best Marque Dealership Service

It's all about the individual dealer.

BMW Jacksonville has been incredible and have gone above and beyond to take care of me as a customer - both in their service and sales departments. Most others I know who have dealt with them will say the same.

I think a big factor in that is that they ALL ride (owner, sales, service, etc). They're whole focus is to do their best to take care of the customer and establish a long term relationship that benefits both. Everyone seems to like working there and they always make anyone feel welcome even if you are just browsing and killing time. The owner (Don) is almost always there and seems to always have time for the customers (even just to chat). His commitment to the customer shows in the whole staff.

I would contrast that with another FL dealership a little farther south on the coast. It used to be owned by a rider and had a great reputation. Now it is owned by a guy from the car industry and it shows. Many working there don't ride (including the owner) and the focus is on getting dollars out of the customer TODAY. The general attitude they present is that if you are not spending dollars today, there's the door. Never saw the owner on site.

That second dealer (when it was the only one around) really had me heading towards another brand. BMW Jacksonville has reaffirmed my commitment to BMW.

Bob's BMW... havn't had a bad day there yet. One bump in the road and they were all over the fix and did extra to put up with me!

With the Harley's, always ended up at a privateer shop, then my own garage.

Whoever, whatever... just bring $$$$. That is the American way.

I have had EXCELLENT service (I didn't say cheap) at BOB's BMW as well, they go one step beyond what most other shops do and customer service means the world to me.
I'm not sure I'd buy from them but their service department is excellent.
