Sargent seat pops out of high position

I've had a Sargent seat on my '01 K12RS for about 5 years. I've never had any trouble putting it in the high seat position. On the last few rides, every time I accelerate hard, the right side drops to the low position and I'm stuck sitting on a slanted seat.

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I just adjust the seat latch?

Re: Sargent seat pops out of high position

I had problems similar to you. Had to take the "catch bracket" (locks back of seat) from the BMW seat and install it on the sargent. If you compare the two you will see the inferior build of the sargent. The problem is not in the front of the seat. When you accelerate your weight pushes back and that part flexes letting the front pop out. My problem happened fairly quick upon acquiring the sargent seat. My weight goes 230-240 dressed to ride. Metal fatigue or did you gain weight or both? Max BMW part no. 52532307788, CATCH BRACKET, $37.68
OUCH!
I tried some changes (made it same diameter, elongated hole) to the sargent "catch bracket". Did not work. Tried to find the bracket on ebay also no good. Hoping you still have your original seat.

Re: Sargent seat pops out of high position

Good feedback! Thanks!

While I will never admit this in front of my wife, I have probably gone from 215 when I got my Sargent to 230ish now. I may fiddle with the catch - when I first got the bike I adjusted it all the way back because the stock seat was a tight fit. Maybe I can solve it by adjusting it back forward.

Re: Sargent seat pops out of high position

I "fiddled" with the catch. I added a piece of metal tubing to increase the diameter of the sargent's catch and enlarged the holes to move the catch as much as possible. Improved the situation but did not solve the problem for me. I purchased my sargent second hand, so no warranty. I also believe I left a message with sargent and received no response. Did not pursue the issue with sargent. Final "straw" was hard acceleration out of a congested toll plaza - not a good feeling when the seat drops down. In my case the whole seat drops.
Perhaps some of the "salvage" ebay sellers can help or beemer boneyard. They may not realize there is some value to the catch on a damaged seat.
I saw one for sale on ebay prior to my problem and wondered why someone would need a "bullet proof" part such as that. Found out why and have never seen another one for sale on ebay under "BMW K1200RS". The part may also be used on other BMW seats. Best of luck.
