Exclamation Oil level sensor broken???

I just had the 40K check-up done and yesterday the oil level sensor lit on. I checked the oil level and the level was ok. I went to the dealership and they said after checking it on their computer that they THINK that this sensor could be broken because nothing on their computer. They said that this part is $275.00 and that they could order one if I want it...

Is there anyways to check this part with some kind of tool before ordering the other part???

Other than that, the bike runs great without any problems.

Re: Oil level sensor broken???

It is a stem with a float on it that lifts as the oil does. It is screwed into the top of the oil tank just forward of the fill hole. It has a cable that goes to the harness. There should be a change of state of the internal magnetic switch as the float rises and falls. You will have to remove the switch, follow the cable to the connector to main harness, un plug it and put a multi meter set to ohms to the connector, move the float and watch for change of state of the connection. It may be difficult to connect your meter to the cable connector but figure out a way.
Or, remove the switch and put a cork or something in the hole to keep the oil in there, start the bike and move the float to the top, see what happens. If it indicates low oil with the float at the bottom and the top, things get more difficult and you may need a new switch.
OR, you could buy this one for 20 bucks and blow a kiss to your dealer:
Beech Arriba, Abajo, Al Centro, Adentro
Mount Vernon Cannon Works
I need a Honda sport or better yet a Monkey
I change your tires, you buy them on the web, I do the work $40, trying to keep riders on the road.

Re: Oil level sensor broken???

Hmmm... A too high or too low oil level should be registered in one of the fault logs of the bike, with the mileage when it occurred.
