Workshop Manual

Looking for a workshop manual. I have read it is only on dvd?

Does anyone else do one, like Haynes?

Price quoted at local dealers was rather steep.

Re: Workshop Manual

Haynes has one out for older S bikes but not for the newer K series. Kind of strange. I wish Haynes used better paper, I know, weird but almost newsprint.

Re: Workshop Manual

I suspect that there were not enough K1200 and K1300 built to justify the expense of paying BMW for publishing rights and printing manuals.

Re: Workshop Manual

I don't think BMW would sell the rights. Not worth it to them for the precedent. As you say I'm not sure there are enough bikes out there even for Haynes or Clymers to do a manual. We will see. I've mentioned before, my memory of published volume data is bad but 7500 bikes comes to mind. Just getting parts in ten years will be a trick.

Re: Workshop Manual

I took a chance last year and bought a DVD off of ebay for $15. Got lucky - I believe it is a copy of the actual service manual the shops use. So far it has everything I've needed. This one for $50 looks the real deal. https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-MOTORCY...GC:rk:5:pf: 0

And then there are other under $20. Might be ok, dunno, but at these prices it may be worth a shot.

I sold mine so I can't check but the one I purchased from the dealer was only for the K1300.
The one on ebay shows for all models.
My current DVD only covers the R1200RS and R1200R.

Re: Workshop Manual

the price of a real version from a bmw dealer, not an illegal copy, is about the same as one hour of shop labor or a piece of decorative CF. cheap.

Re: Workshop Manual

Yes it is sad but you cannot get a paper OEM service manual from BMW anymore. The BMW techs at the dealers now use the DVD versions. I ran into this on my 2016 R1200RT as well. But it is better than my experience with Triumph. With them you go online and pay them for online use of the literature. You can have online access for a fee that varies depending on how much time you want access for. That's right you get to rent access. Same for Triumph dealers and they have to pay a yearly fee for access.

Re: Workshop Manual

It costs many tens of thousands of dollars to make these manuals. But the Triumph situation is good enough for me not to consider buying one. Much like tube tires. No way.

Re: Workshop Manual

The Triumph manual situation is nuts. If you could buy a permanent subscription for a reasonable price, like less than $100, I guess it wouldn't be so bad.

Well I should have mentioned they now let you copy the manual online if you wish. In my case the manual for my 2016 Thruxton R was 250 pages which takes quite a while. Great bike Beech but I don't like the new policies from a lot of manufacturers concerning literature.

About the hardware of the new chip :
It is a new faster AMD chip.
The hardware specifications of the chip are also an upgrade to the stock old BMW chip.
This new chip has 120 nanosecond communication speed with the ECU compared to the 200ns of the stock which allows quicker mixture and ignition corrections for optimal combustion.
It also has a wider operating temperature spectrum which ranges from -80 to 180 degrees celcius.
