USB ports

Most of the electronic devices I've purchased lately now have common USB connections to connect to an AC plug or a computer for power and/or charging the device. This replaces the bulkier (and dedicated) AC power cord connection on most new electronics and saves both space as well as weight. I'm wondering when car and bike manufacturers will enter the 21st century and start putting USB power ports in their vehicles instead of the ubiquitous and antiquated "cigarette lighter" power ports they now install.

Does anyone know of a compelling downside of NOT doing this? I can't think of one.

Re: USB ports

I agree with your point. To save on all the difference power cables, I standardized on USB and a micro USB adapter, installed a USB power source. All these are available on Amazon or eBay. Sure simplified things.
