USB Install Confusion, Please Help

I'm confused. In trying to install a USB/12V outlet on my KS, I'm not getting the expected results. I tapped into the same wires that I am using for my radar detector power which still works. Also, connected a volt meter to the new outlets and they showed ~12V, but when I plug my phone into it via USB, it doesn't show the phone charging.

Now this outlet is 2x USB plus 1x 12V socket, looks like it is this one http://www.walmart.com/ip/12V-Dual-U...8003W/29029303

Putting a meter on the outlets it seems to be powered. But plug my phone USB and doesn't show charging. Also if I plug in a charger adaptor into the 12V side, still isn't showing anything on the power LED.

What am I missing here?

I suspect you have 12v but not enough amperage. Hook the unit up to the battery directly and see if you have the same results. If it works that way, it's time to create a switched circuit with a relay.

Re: USB Install Confusion, Please Help

In the light of morning, I am going to change my description of the issue but not the diagnosis of the problem.

Again, I would start by trying the outlet connected directly to the battery, if it works that way, you need to evaluate the circuit you are trying to power it from. Also, and perhaps first, verify that you have an adequate ground to the charge port wiring.
