Thank you, took it out for a quick spin and noticed that it's a completely different ride coming from a K1300S.

Yes it is, engine is not as refined as the K1300S, and it's like riding a GS with a S1000R buzzy motor.

not sure why it wouldn't be good out here in the western states, 5+ gal fuel tank and 150+ mph top speed + easy ergos sounds like a winning combination just about anywhere

Congrats on the new bike.

I've had an XR since last August and it's a great bike. Very versitile with so many great characteristics. Head and shoulders above anything I've owned, like a dream to ride.

I trully believe u r going to miss the K13S u had, the power deliver, presence on the road the feel.
I test rode S1000R, RR and XR. RR is a manical beast, R and XR just felt like bicycles and kinda buzzy, way to upright

Re: Traded my K1300S for a S1000XR

Check Marc Cook's XR review from jan 1 17 motorcyclist magzine, he has an interesting take on the XR

I down sized from Kawi Concours 2010 and never owned a BMW so i am coming from a different perspective.

from what ive read in the XR forum the longer you own a XR the more you love it.

Re: Traded my K1300S for a S1000XR

there is no best bike, only the best bike for a combo of an individual and a task.

just like there are truck , suv , sedan and sports car people, there are gs , xr , gt and rr/s people.

i fit in the rr/s category. not even interested in test riding an xr. but that doesn't mean the xr isn't the best bike for someone else! enjoy the new ride!

Re: Traded my K1300S for a S1000XR

If our experience has any bearing on the subject.. since day one we've been selling more swag for the XR than the R1200RS, the S1000R, and S1000RR combined..

Apparently the XR is doing very well in the market place...

Makes sense to me since it's a more versatile bike than the others.

think that is what i was saying....

"the best bike for a combo of an individual and a task."

if you have one (individual) and it puts a smile on your face (task), then it is the best bike..

Re: Traded my K1300S for a S1000XR

I dropped by my dealer yesterday and ran in to a friend that was picking up his XR. His previous bikes were KS until his latest, an S1000RR. He said this was his first upright seating bike. He texted me last night after putting only about 60 miles on it and seemed pretty happy with it.

What's kinda interesting is the amount of overlap in the BMW line up between the S1000R, the XR, and the R1200R. They're all upright ergos, minimum to no wind protection, and each great in their own right. If you sit the XR aside, the other two bikes pretty much hit the same mission profile but cater to the bifurcated BMW camp on engine choice. The XR seems to be a response to the Multistrada in a way that the GS couldn't match so it's a bit different but in reality looks to me like it fits the exact same mission as the R and XR.

So they've clogged up the line up with all these bikes and yet, don't have a true replacement for the KS unless you're willing to count the RS. There's that bifurcation raising its specter again.

When I tossed my S1000RR, I really thought I'd be replacing it with an S1000R or XR but I just couldn't get happy with either. The R seemed too much same-same and the XR was too tall and kinda same-same also for me. On the track that engine is phenomenal. On the street it just feels like a temptation to the gray bar hotel. That's why I stepped out of line and picked up the 1290R to keep my GS company. It's still a hooligan inducing engine but that torquey twin goodness is something I had to experience. It's just very different.

I'm liking that wasserboxer enough in my GS that really the only bike there that truly interests me is the R1200RS for a sport tourer. If I feel the need for that kind of bike again, that might be where I shop.

Same here...too "bitsy" - and far too tall for me anyway.
