K1200s just developed stalling problem

I know these bikes have been know for stalling problems but I don't think this is the usual problem. I've had the bike since 2011, put 22k on it and it's never had a stalling issue but now it stalls everytime I come to a stop if I don't keep the throttle open a little. Any ideas on what could be causing it?

Re: K1200s just developed stalling problem

Hi Steve

Sorry about the problem....

I've had a similar issue on my K13R, seems k12's have the same symptom too.

Look at this thread: "Choking and stalling when coasting, now with backfire" http://www.i-bmw.com/showthread.php?t=48870,

First thing. disconnect the O2 sensor. this cause to use the default fueling map.

Try doing a throttle re-sync; may help.

Re: K1200s just developed stalling problem

My used 07 K1200R had a BAD stalling issue.. Low mile bike, well maintained (8000 miles)

So,,, I added some Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner to a couple of fill ups, did a Throttle Position Sensor reset.

Believe it or not,,, the issue is MUCH less pronounced. Its NOT 100% gone but,, I can much more easily tell when its trying to stall and use the throttle to prevent it from stalling.

On a scale of 1 -10 10 being BAD, The stalling issues when I first purchased the bike used was a 7.

After the fuel system cleaner and TPS Reset,, the problem is now a 2

Im happy!

Bill

Re: K1200s just developed stalling problem

Thanks for the suggestions guys but it's running good again. I did the TPS reset and that didn't help so I decided to pull it apart and see if the idle control was fouled with oil. Well got it all apart and everything looked good, surprisingly very little oil in the airbox . Cleaned everything I could get to and put it back together and now it's back to normal. So it seems I bought some bad gas, filled up in a little town just before the problem started and refilled at my usual ethanol free location about 20 miles before I took everything apart or disconnecting the battery cleared up the problem. I'm leaning towards the battery being disconnected seeing it stalled when pulling it into the garage to take it apart. Could be a combination, who knows but it's running good again!
