Surging?

Ive started to notice surging while riding at a steady speed, 55-70 mph. Yes, right in the vibe zone in 6th. Especially in dynamic mode, still noticeable in road mode. Haven't tried it in rain. it's not extreme, but noticeable. It seems like the fuel cuts off momentarily for a short time and then comes back. On Cruise control, speed stays pretty constant.

Hard to judge today because it was also windy.

I'm think a full exhaust system, no cat, and fuel remapping. Sounds very expensive. Also I don't want to make more noise.

Not sure any of this is justified. Maybe BMW will remedy on software update? Im sure it wont be advertised, probably just too lean for epa.

With all the internet noise on this bike, am I over sensitive?

Anyone else do any remapping?

I have to add, I love this bike. It's an upright, comfortable sport bike with luggage ability. Handles fantastic and the engine is fabulous.

It's a hoot to ride.

Re: Surging?

Frank

It's a very powerful bike and the throttle is very sensitive especially in Dynamic mode.

I have never noticed surging in the sense of involuntary acceleration without any additional throttle input.

There are some who doubtless will go for some new exhaust system and maybe a remap but IMHO it's totally unnecessary.

As you say it's a hoot to ride.

Re: Surging?

I ride a K1200s
Same technology....a bit older but very similar.

Surging can be caused by a fuel injector either being dirty,
or failing.

How long is the surge? Are you covering alot of distance before it ends?

1. I would start by leaving the battery unhooked to reset the eng-comp.

2. The throttle grip on your bike is electronic. Its more like throttle position sensor for your hand.

3. The computer would maybe save a "report" and not have it cause a yellow triangle warning.

4.Fuel? Maybe change the Petrol/Gas Station for a couple of tanks.

Re: Surging?

The surging is very brief, less than one second. Happens even under cruise control, most noticeable there. More of a stumble. It may have been the gas. I try always to get no ethanol high test, but not always possible. Maybe I should run it dry and try again?

Re: Surging?

I would run some injector cleaner through (Chevron Techron). You could see if any of yuor riding buddies has a Wifi GS911 and get your adaptation tables reset.

I just use top tier gas but always 93 octane (but it will generally have up to 10% ethanol - yuk!)

Re: Surging?

I might know someone with a GS911.

I always use 93 gas, no ethanol if I can find it.

Re: Surging?

Does it surge even if you ride at a higher RPM for a while?

Realized that it was the wind. No issues today.

Re: Surging?

Might check your filters..... Could be not properly installed.

Anyway, glad you found out.

Post a photo of your bike?!

I don't usually name my bikes, this seemed appropriate.

Re: Surging?

You know,
your bike is a race engine in
a Road/Trail bike frame.

So when the wind hits you,
the whole bike becomes a wind trap.

The wind lash goes back through
the drivetrain and the electronics start to stumble.

Because of emissions tests, the engine is running
very lean. Any sort of measurements that are not in range
the BMSK stumbles. Even after the influence is gone.

I work on jet engines, its the same thing.

Frank, remember as well that you went from a plough horse to a thorough bred!

I guess I shouldn't repeat that in certain company. You know how those GS riders are.
