Re: Screwed up...

LOUIS,
Ouch - very sorry !!
I knew you were a tough cookie, but there is no need to prove it (again!). Really hoping for a speedy recovery.

Do you know when they will send you home from Hospital? My brother in law was sent home a bit too quickly last year after a similar incident (pelvis fracture - fell from his roof while removing snow).

Wonder if they'll invite me?

Bowling ain't an option... Next question ?

Hey bud,
I had Christmas supper with two of her brothers.
One of them, Rick is a very good friend of mine and he's been around to check on me every day.
Wish he'd bring his sister along but with being a Snow Host at Sunpeaks and her"other job" as a senator, she understandably is short on time...
Merci

Re: Screwed up...

Interesting today: ran into a guy I haven't seen for a few years. Seemed like he had a skiing accident at Mt Baker in 2010. Member of ski patrol carrying some equipment, got airborne , lost a ski, crashed, broke a shoulder. Later, turned out he had split a tooth which got infected and before anyone figured it out the infection went through his brain and down his spinal cord. Paralyzed for better part of a year. Survived with some slight tingling in his extremities but is now back skiing. So, you can do it, too.
Was lamenting at Safety Meeting that due to time of year precludes us arriving en masse at your location for some type of tailgate party
As you always say: Cheers, bud

Re: Screwed up...

Ho boy, this won't be easy... way tougher than I thought it would be.
Damn pelvis seems to be connected to any movement, even at rest, nothing is simple. No position is comfortable after a (often short) while.
Thanks for all your well wishes, it sure is driving me to go further than I would have on my own.
Latest small victory has been to get to the corridor with my walker and pushed back the thought to turn around and head back to bed. Made it down the hall, flashing my black and blue bum for all the nurses and post ops to see!
Today's goal will be to be a little more graceful with the infernal walker and God willing to finally have a dump. It's been since Sunday morning and I'm feeling clogged up big time. Going for a wiz has not yet been an automatic but I'm getting there. Is that too much information?
No use talking about the cramps associated with all this. And I have been eating very little. A lot of fruit... Ok... maybe some desserts... I have had way many more visitors than I ever thought would come over to visit. I'm fortunate to have moved to a town like Rossland where the locals really open their hearts to clowns like me who happen to stumble into their paradise. And they came bearing gifts. (everything from #brownies to sucre à crème to WW1 books to the history of skiing) Fortunately someone brought me the Cycle Canada January issue and calendar. (Gotta change my focus to another activity that I'll be rehabbing for.)
Well that's it for my whining.
Thanks for being my cheerleaders.

Cheers buds

Re: Screwed up...

Yesterday had to be the worst.
After not being able to evacuate for 4 days they started to give me some Drano. Twice.
Next day, it was major! Suppositoires at 10:00, didn't work...
Then again at 11:30... No luck... Sigh...
Finally getting an enema at 1:30pm.
Man that is NOT comfortable!
Cramps all afternoon, fever setting in around 3:00.
Squirming in bed. Had to be the worst day of the week.
Finally, at 5:30, jubilation!
I'll take the down side of the enema over being clogged up with pain.
But for those who have never had... Take a pass!
If you're going to be taking painkillers, specially morphine, take Metamucil as often as you can...

Back to normal pain this morning.
All good!

Ouch, hope it's starts getting easier mate.
I was stuck in hospital after having gall stones blasted out of the tubing down there, hadn't gone to the gents for days, ended up dragging my drip out to the car park in the middle of the night and smoking a cigarette I had in the car, that got the system moving, otherwise it was more pain, more painkillers.

Hope you have a speedy recovery

Cheers

This is bad News Luis! I am sorry to hear of it and hope that you heal quickly and completely my friend.

I imagine you said a few things prior to impact.

Hey bud,
I'll try to clear things up. Red Mountain is a paradise of outta bounds skiing. Out of the 130 runs or so here, no more than 25 are groomed... So skiing the trees with my buddy Hawaii Bob, I came to a wide opening of the forest over huge cliffs dropping down at a 50* angle. Skied it many times but snow has to be plentiful. 20 inches had fallen in the last 48 hours so it seemed logical to go down and shred the mother... Even with all the snow, I hit a rock and having prolly sacrificed $1200. worth of equipment, looked down half a second to check out the skis and lost my concentration just long enough to go off course by a couple of degrees. Unintentionally hucked a 20ft cliff at a 90 degree angle. Usually I woudda hit it at an angle, hucked the cliff, stuck the landing and woudda skied down the couloir between both rock faces. Instead with a rock wall facing me on the other side keeping going was outta the question... Threw up my skis so that my legs could absorb the impact. Unfortunately, there was a protruding rock hidden by all the snow that just fit between my legs and my derrière hit it full force. Fractured my pelvis and the L1 vertebrae. Tried and succeeded to get up just to fall down crumpled up in the snow. Made my way down on my own all the way to the cat track cause I didn't think the ski patrol could swing it... Woudda been one heckuva rope rescue !
Went down about 150 yards slip sliding down on my back, on my side and finally the last fifty yards on my stomach down a path Bob side stepped for me so that I could crawl on my elbows. By the time I got to the cat track the ski patrol was just arriving. He had to call in reinforcements and three other patrollers showed up. Put me on a toboggan and brought me down to the awaiting ambulance.
The rest is easy to figure out.

Hope this clears things up for ya.

Cheers bud

Re: Screwed up...

Yesterday was a relapse... Sorry Vics but when ya called, I was in some new frontier of pain.
When I woke up yesterday before I was even outta bed I was caught off guard by a sneeze.
I thought that I'd been stabbed with a hunting knife. It only lasted two minutes. All morning I tried to hold back any sneeze creeping on. I blew my nose incessantly. Still a couple sneaked by but without much damage. Finally in the afternoon having some lunch, it came.
Felt like a dagger this time. And the pain wasn't going away.
I thought that I'd busted a gut...
Where previously, I was starting to get around fairly easy with the stroller, now I could barely move. Made it to the favorite chair to calm down but nothing was doing...
Man it hurt...
Called the doc and waited a couple of hours for the call back. I was trying to steer clear of the morph but she said to pop a few. Within a couple of hours later, the burning sensation had been muffled in a haze of the brain.
This morning, seems so much better now. Still not somethings the previous day but at least it's subsided.
Thanks for your support guys, it means something... a lot.
Friends came by yesterday, but I musta scared them off... Usually, we sit and chat but all I could do yesterday was put on a brave face. But they could sense the massive pain... hence their uneasiness...
Thank god for my bud Claude who moved in for a week to give me a hand till the S.O. flies in on Friday. He's had experience... I don't envy him at all. His two wives, 20 years apart, died from cancer. And he was there for them.
And I complain...

Louis, I believe Rick is onto something here. So you saw this Ski Bunny flying through the air and didn't pay attention where you were going? Hang in there and get better.

Re: Screwed up...

Been late putting this part up. Doesn't follow the chronological order but you guys ain't on the hard stuff so... you'll get it!

Got kicked out Saturday morning from the hospital.

Lame excuse... Said I thought that I was sooo funny!

Can you believe that?

Huh!
Had to be the excellent drugs...

Got home via ambulance!

Why you ask?

Because I can't climb outdoor steps that coudda (woudda) been frozen ad or slippery.

The local firemen were there waiting on standby to take me up the stairs!!!!

Fire truck and all!

So you got some pics here that show the ambulance attendants plus the firemen hoisting me up the many stairs into the house...

Where was my Rossland District Search And Rescue team???

Sorry , didn't have the time nor the opportunity (nor will I till they let me shower....) to wash my hair for all the selfies!

Thanks for your well wishes

Cheers

Re: Screwed up...

This guy walks into a bar. He's completely covered in shit. He sits on a stool and orders a beer. The bartender gets his beer and delivers it to him. He says, "Man, what happened to you?"
The guys says, "Well, I work for the circus. My job is to look after the elephants. Sometimes, with all the travel and lack of a fixed schedule, some of the elephants get constipated, and I have to give them an enema. I get a ladder and put it behind the elephant. Then I get a garden hose, climb up the ladder, and fill up the elephant's butt with water from the hose. Sometimes the elephant cuts loose before I can get down off the ladder. That's what happened this morning."
The bartender says, "Jeez, that's horrible!! Why don't you get another job?"
The guy says, "What, and leave show business?"

So now, Louis, you know how the elephant feels. But imagine how your nurses felt!

I'm sorry to be so insensitive. But I think you are sensitive enough for all of us.
I just saw your thread today, so forgive me for being late with my commiserations. Keep us posted on your plans. Perhaps you'll be wintering in Beauce this year?

I hope you heal quickly.

Isn't this a bit extreme to get Lucy to move out west with you?

Get well soon so you can come to Europe with us after I win the PowerBall.

Re: Screwed up...

Louis, Glad to see that you are on the mend and back at the cottage. Had I known they were shipping you home I would have sent in the HOT squad to assist you, sponge baths included

For the wellbeing of my gut (since that I seemed to have busted one yesterday) as well as for my general wellbeing, I'll resist reading the above as it might be construed as suicide.

In your delicate condition, that's probably a good idea.

We prayed for you this morning at Men's Prayer Breakfast. Right at 8 eastern time. Did you feel any relief around then?
