Post Unsafe overtaking/passing....

I urge motorcyclists to be cautious and not take unnecessary risks. A dangerous overtaking manoeuvre could mean instead of getting there faster, you don't get there at all. Half of the lives lost this year have been due to unsafe overtaking."

Re: Unsafe overtaking/passing....

Many motorcycle accidents you will find after a complete investigation(root cause) are in fact rider error. Certainly there are a lot of accidents that were caused by another motorists but many like in this situation it comes down to bad judgment.

On the road there are also many unforeseen variables - a rider thinks he/she has enough room to make a pass - but the driver in the car is either unaware of the motorcyclist making the pass and they move a little just as the bike is passing causing the rider to react in many cases incorrectly and that's when the pass goes bad.

Or bad judgment on making the pass before the next corner and again the rider reacts(goes into servivor mode) and panics and again bad things start to happen.

Experience and good sound judgment are key to riding motorcycles.

This article was written in New Zealand. They drive on the wrong side of the road which is dangerous.

I used to go whenever I wanted to pass.

Two semis... Blind righty, no matter...

Once going to the Finger Lakes rally, Heilman was so pi$$ed off at me cause he couldn't keep up with me... Vics could... Go figure...

Bruce Rossmeyer Accident. What Happened?

Published by Cyril Huze August 4th, 2009

After the shock of knowing that Bruce Rossmeyer was killed on a motorcycle, you all wondered what really happened. It’s too late to blame anyone. The only thing I can report is what says the official police report (From WYDOT, Accident Records, 5300 Bishop Blvd. Cheyenne, Wyoming 82009. (307)777-4450).

“The roadway at the time of the crash was dry with clear weather conditions. Both vehicles were eastbound on WYO 28. Rossmeyer was traveling with a group of five other motorcycles. Rossmeyer was behind the VanValkenburg vehicle which was pulling a 2 axle camper style trailer. VanValkenburg braked and used his vehicles left turn signal to indicate he was going to make a turn from WYO 28 onto a small dirt road.

VanValkenburg was in the process of making his left turn when Rossmeyer attempted to pass the VanValkenburg combination on the left. Rossmeyer collided into the drivers side door of the VanValkenburg pickup. The collision occurred near the westbound shoulder. After impact, Rossmeyer was ejected from the motorcycle and came to rest partially under the trailer near the passenger side tires. Troopers investigating this crash have determined that the turn signals and the brake lights were in working condition on the VanValkenburg combination. It is unknown why Rossmeyer did not see the turn signal/ brake lights”.

I don't feel unsafe when I ride with you Louis, as long as your arm is in the air! Wait; why was I following you?

No thanks needed bud. It was my pleasure helping you out. Being the giver that I am, send me the title and I'll take care of disposing of the bike for you.

Heck, I'll even let you ride it if you ever make it down this way again!

I'd love to enjoy your company and hospitality at the lake house again. I enjoyed the short time I was there before.
