You could try asking BMW - can't see why they wouldn't tell you.

Re: Simple question about BMW production

I just tried today with BMW Motorrd NA. Didn't go far.

I wrote

I'm the proud owner of a 2015 K1300S Motorsport Edition, and I'm
looking for info on the production quantities (US primarily, but worldwide
by market would be great as well) and serial number ranges for this model
and edition for 2015-2016.

They responded
Quote:
Thank you for contacting BMW Motorrad USA regarding production figures for your 2015 BMW K 1300 S Motorsport Edition. We are glad to read that your BMW brings your great pride, and happy to consider you a member of the BMW Motorrad family!

We appreciate your interest in acquiring sales and production information. Unfortunately, our policy does not permit us to release this data. We are sorry for any disappointment this may cause.

So, we may need to do this the hard way: sample the population and see what we get.

1. Can anyone confirm whether MS editions were interspersed with regular models or built as a batch?
2. Maybe set up a poll where 2015/2016 owners can enter the last 4 of their VIN, the production date, and whether it's a standard or Motorsport. I'll look into that.

Re: Simple question about BMW production

BMW does very little in this country to promote the brand. They have a piss poor attitude. I have received replies like that for other subjects. Once, they did the Guggenheim rally in Las Vegas years back, it was great and thank you. I'm not talking about dragging their truck with demo bikes around but just being friendly and answering questions, accepting ideas that sort of thing. Send the regional reps to the local rallies to answer questions and help out with specific problems. Exposure. Maybe even a add on TV to sell a few bikes. Don't leave the dealers hanging, help with free lunches on Saturdays, something. The old ways of marketing are dead.

Re: Simple question about BMW production

Beech, nicely said.
Be assured, they have the same attitude in Europe. Why? Because BMW's a German company. They are miles above their customers. They don't need input, feedback or whatever form of communication with their customers. They put all their pride and knowledge and enginering skills in the bikes and that should suffice. After all, they know best, don't they.

Only their dealers are a bit better off. Sometimes their questions, complaints, remarks and proposals about the bikes, the cars and the organisation are heard in Munich.
