I need donor clutch basket - anyone?

I want to tear one down and develop a local US source for the clutch basket springs (which I'm capable of designing and having fab'ed if not available from the may "stock" sources), and also the tools/techniques and parts for removing and replacing the rivets.

Will share all knowledge gained.

I'm a skilled mechanical engineer and mechanic so your prospects are good.

I'm happy to cooperate with the donor as requested too.

Thanks in advance.

Re: I need donor clutch basket - anyone?

Hey Mike Check out this thread. Fourhundred4 has out-engineered BMW in the clutch department and could be worth a PM.

Hi Mike

Just to try to help, clutch basket (Coupling cup) is the same in K12S, K13GT, and K13R, maybe this could extend the probabilities

Hmmm....Thanks.
Are you suggesting I use the official terminology? Or that I post in several locations on the site?
Thanks
MK

That's ok Mike, is not necessary to post the same in other forums, just I posted more data in order to show other members. Could be useful in case some guy with a S or R has a basket, as example if he changed for a barnett clutch

Re: I need donor clutch basket - anyone?

I think it would be great if while you're doing this you designed a replacement clutch basket made out of some sterner stuff (TiN coated steel??) than the factory's. The soft metal develops ridges that compromise engagement smoothness. I'd be happy to trade off the extra weight for the durability. I have a broken basket and parts that you're welcome to evaluate for your purposes. PM me if you're interested.

Let's resurrect this thread, though it's not so old....

Did anything come of this?

Thumbs down Re: I need donor clutch basket - anyone? Maybe

I just had my clutch replaced on my 2010 K1300GT with a complete BMW one. The basket was tore up some but I believe I can get most of the parts. Exactly what pieces do you need?

Thanks Frankr, but I only resurrected the thread, you'd have to offer your bits to the OP. I wonder if his contact with 404 resulted in his abandoning the idea. Maybe I'll PM him.
