My First 12 months with new K 1300 R

Just clocked up 9500k's on the new K1300 R, what a ride ! Got her booked in for a 10,000 service & new rear tyre. Fuel consumption has settled down to a consistent 5.2 L/100 km's & it hasn't missed a beat. This is my first new bike in over 30 odd years, the last being my GPz 750 turbo giant killer. I ran the big 13 R in carefully, limiting revs to 7000 for 5000 km's and gave it occasional full throttle bursts up to that RPM to bed rings down. It's only been over that 7000 RPM figure maybe 3 or 4 times in 10,000 KM's absolutely no need to !! The feature I like best on this thing is it's top gear acceleration from 100 kph on the open road, not much if anything can stick with it.

Ended up fitting a few extra's like centre stand, heli bars, headlight protector, carry bag, tank pads, & sheepskin seat cover. Managed to re fit my old Remus Revolution Carbon Muffler off my previous K 1200 s with a small bracket mod. All in all a class act to follow my 2005 K 1200 S which was a great bike in itself that I kept longer than any previous road rocket I've ever owned. I couldn't be happier with the 13 R, no issues at all.

A few riding buddies & I are planning a big road trip in January via Great Ocean Road/ Port Campbell & Grampians, Central Victoria, so the beast will get a fair workout, looking forward to that in a big way. Wishing all in here a Merry Xmas & a happy & fulfilling new year.........

Re: My First 12 months with new K 1300 R

I'm glad you are happy with you 1300r....me too! Mine will be three years old next month and I have put 54,000kms on it. Great bike! Good thing I have other bikes to ride or it would have close to 100,000kms on it!

Cheers

Re: My First 12 months with new K 1300 R

Just clocked up 12000 k's. New rear tyre @ 10, front due now @ 12. Fuel consumption has improved again to 5.1 L/100k from 5.4 & 5.2. Must be going too slow. Best thing I added was the centrestand, gotta love that thing. Recently I bought myself a battery powered tyre pump from Peter Stevens online to complement my C 0 2 bottles. Had to fix a guys puncture a few weeks ago surrounded by 9 "experts" giving the usual "advice". Only took 10 minutes & we were away. Of course none of them have ever done one or carry a kit.

He rolled up to the meeting point and said his Bandit wasn't handling that well. One look at his rear tyre told the story, half flat. I pulled a metal stud out of the tread, plugged it & then put 2 bottles into it. He rode all day and for the next 3 weeks then got it patched from inside as the tyre still had good tread depth. He was very appreciative & bought me lunch
Today we went for another run & a guy on a new S1000 naked Beemer had an issue with a coolant dump for some obscure reason. Couldn't see any rad holes, maybe it was over filled. In any case he bailed out & turned back. I just said call BMW roadside assist if it got worse.
I think the guy is a bit of a tinkerer as a month ago we pulled up & his new bike was covered in oil !!

Didn't secure the filler plug properly

Mostly central Victorian Goldfields region, was in Clunes today. I bought this thing in December 2015, have only seen ONE other since. It is the best bike I've owned.

Re: My First 12 months with new K 1300 R

Rallies ? Yeah been to a few. I rode a Triumph 500 Speed Twin to the 1966 Kangaroo Rally at Ballarat. Went to the first 2 Busa Rallies at Jindabine with 30 others. I'll have a look & put it on my calendar. I'm going to the All British Rally next month at Newstead, always a good turnout for older bikes.
