Serge:

Depends on the parts - certainly the dealer when looking for O.E.M. Depending on the parts I'm looking for I typically start with the vendors here @ i-BMW. And then I go with a vendor that has the part that has a good reputation.

There is no one supplier for everything.

Re: Maintenance parts where do you get them???

my general approach for the cars I fix (bmw's in the family plus the wife's benz) is to look up the part number and use it as a search term online. The same suppliers come up time after time, and I'm happy with the four I use plus the local independent euro car parts dealer, who sometimes matches the online prices. I don't confront the local with online prices, but surely they are aware that I'm doing this. Both my wife and I are on first-name basis with them, a good place to be.

Common stuff like oil and plugs come from anywhere. Tires I order online. More vehicle-specific stuff we'll probably have to get from a dealer, not necessarily the one and only dealer in the state of Hawaii. Shipping's expensive to here, but in CONUS you can get all manner of bargain shipping.

beemerboneyard.com has most of your maintenance Parts (plugs, filters, oil, air filters) at a reasonable price. If you need shims and gaskets, you may have to go to the dealer.

Don't forget

Motobins in UK has plenty of goodies
Good used parts sometimes on Ebay. I have purchased long term major parts spares there. No better place for shocks than Ted Porter Beemershop.

Re: Maintenance parts where do you get them???

Salut Serge,

Use to be a time it was way cheaper for us in Canada to order them from the states. But with the current exchange rate... there are much less saving.

Personally I order BMW parts only, they are more expansive, but I save on labour since I installed them myself.

Re: Maintenance parts where do you get them???

I've been pleasantly surprised by my local BMW dealer. Prices for things like filters, brakes and tires have been the same as online prices...and since I'm retired military, they also give me a 10% discount as well.

Chris
