Vin Help Please

Hi all. I need help finding the vin on my R1200C.
I know of the sticker but the DMV wants more than that . Can anyone please tell e or better yet have a picture of where the stamped or engraved VIN on the frame is? I would love to get this registered so that I can ride guilt free.

Bob, try looking under the instruments on the right front of the frame. Also, isn't it on the title?

Re: Vin Help Please

I have looked all over that bike. Even had two DMV persons crawling over it. Yes its on the title but they want to prove the bike hasn't been stolen or pieced together.

Re: Vin Help Please

Maybe a stupid question but why are they suspicious? in all my years never had anyone check my vehicle or bike to make sure the VIN is present.

Re: Vin Help Please

Mine is a sticker on a steel mount welded to the sub-frame. Don't know if it's stamped in metal anywhere.

Rick is this on a R1200C? If so, what is the location of this?

Re: Vin Help Please

Check in front of the O2 sensor and the shock strut. On the K's they put the VIN and compliance plate on the swingarm.

Hi Robert

As stated in the manual, is on the frame, at the right. ( See the page # 46.3 in this interesting manual):

Thank you for the great manual link!
But it refers to the sticker on the upper frame. Is it possible that BMW has not done another vin location?

Re: Vin Help Please

You may have to take a print of the manual to the DMV with you.
I have a suggestion though. Call the Medford, Oregon BMW shop. I hear the owner there is a wonderful guy and he may know the answer if there is one stamped like you are looking for.

Re: Vin Help Please

On my '15 GS it's on the frame. Looking in-between the forks above the wheel I
can see it on the frame to my right.

My bad, I thought I had included that.

2001 R1200c Phoenix / Independent.

Graphite and yellow.
I am at wits end about this. Beginning to believe that a frame VIN does not exist.

It's there, use a small flashlight and look again.

I was making reference to all the helpful tips from non C bike owners. Different models have different locations. Yours is turning out to be most interesting.

Yes, they used to all be on the steering head now they move them around, but always
on the frame somewhere.
As I mentioned, use a small flashlight to peek into the nooks and crannies to follow the
frame members.

Re: Vin Help Please

Thanks for all the ideas guys. Mr. Rob Bishop helped with a pic of his. So the mystery is solved. I is just behind the rear arm pivot facing down and to the rear of the bike. Here is the pic so anyone else who's been scratching their head can find it.
