K1300R - Exhaust Header Discolouration

Looking at the left hand side of the bike today and the discolouration of the left hand header caught my eye. Then looked at the other side and there is much less discolouration.
The difference was quite noticeable. See photos below.

Is this normal? Should I just forget or look into it further?

Re: K1300R - Exhaust Header Discolouration

No need to worry Doc, have been looking at many 1300 s exhausts, seems to be a common trait with that crossover pipe to be bluer than the others. I f you want to cure it get a full system, go on you know you want to your already making excuses

Re: K1300R - Exhaust Header Discolouration

Thanks Wardy. I was hoping that would be the answer.

Tanya has already seen my despair, as I’ve moped around all afternoon, concerned about this issue

The seed for me full exhaust system has been planted.

Re: K1300R - Exhaust Header Discolouration

Just a guess John but i think the extra bends in that pipe create a bit of a hotspot by interfering with the gasflow compared to the 3 others.

Thanks Pete
I suspected same, but couldn’t recall noticing this on the other two bikes.

That's fckt John, and it can't be fixed. Even Mogs can't fix that!!
Wardy knows who to order full Arrow systems off.... and I wouldn't ride a K1300 with a standard exhaust anymore.

Lots of useful info already, Randall being the smartest.

You may be unaware, but, men normally purchase full systems in Akrapovic.
Homo's tend to go the Arrow way....confused transexuals mix it up with a combo of both.
Hope this may be of help....

Randall is just a naughty little boy, unless you mean Uncle Fester, in which case you would be correct.

I’m sticking with my Arrow and I’m going to wash it at the rally. Mum always said “it’s yours so you can wash it as much as you want”

Re: K1300R - Exhaust Header Discolouration

Personally i wouldn't worry about it. If i saw rust or pitting, then yes. Steel for exhausts these days is pretty good, however there are instances of ones that aren't passing grade.

I just reflect on how exhaust pipes used to be.

They used to rust through completely.

Like i said, personally i would not worry about it. Mine have a worn and dull patina, yours are still shiney. If you are concerned, maybe go as the Jones' with a titanium set. Aesthetcially pleasing and better than stinless steel.

Re: K1300R - Exhaust Header Discolouration

Thanks to all for your replies.

The reason I was asking and I thing Greyfox and Captain Howdy understood, was not the actual discolouration but the possible reason for it.

I was concerned that maybe there is an underlying reason, like hotter exhaust temperatures from one port compared to the others which could indicate an issue.

But like Capt Howdy said, that crossover pipe probably gets hotter due to the bend, and not as efficient gas flow as the other three.

Sorry buddy...I'll take a look at mine and report back what I see...

I doubt it. We didn't get the K13R. Real men run GSA's anyway.

I would suggest ignoring it and running the piss out of that bike. But that is just how I roll.
