Well that makes it mutual... anyone who is brand new on a forum, doesn't introduce himself, and begins by making remarks like you have is an asshole, pure and simple.

Re: How about a picture of YOU with your GT?

Yes, Miles, The IBR. I got a last-minute invite and had to scramble to get the bike ready in time. Managed a 9th-place finish on only one final drive. Although I did carry a spare FD unit in my saddlebag, just in case. Seriously.

Not sure why the links fail, must be something to do with this site as I've used them before. Try clicking on the following links directly:

Re: How about a picture of YOU with your GT?

Ken,

This is weird, link didn't work here, but did on my web-mail! Go figure. Have to say that broad grin written all over your face says it all. That's just a great picture; assume it was at the end of the marathon Iron Butt event.

Being in the top-ten isn't all bad, either. Assume this is a one time entry;or, do you plan on next year, too?

Understand your taking a spare f.d. As many miles as you've gone on the GT and your past experience with that kind of break-down, it was a good idea. What does a f.d. weigh? It sure says alot about what we're willing to put up with riding our steeds!

Miles

Re: How about a picture of YOU with your GT?

The pic of me riding is the start of the IBR. The other pic was taken at a different Rally, but still conveys the feeling.

As I pulled into the IBR finish, I was seriously ready to turn around and run it over again, backwards. But maybe after a short nap.

Carrying the FD was insurance that fortunately, I didn't need to use. Honestly, if something fit me better or worked better than the GT, I'd be on it already. But so far, nothing else does.

And yes, I'll be back in '11, and be riding to win it this time . . .

My second time through the Dragon two summers ago. That was biiiiig fun!! Heading up to ATL for a service tomorrow (240 miles). Supposed to be 25 degrees in the morning when I get started. Let's hope the seat heat and grips are ready for the challenge!!

Hi all,

Some stunning pix here!

I'm new to this Forum (this my 1st post).

Bought my 1st Beemer (a SPOTLESS 2007 K1200GT) in July this year with only 6000km on the clock.

Have done about 6000km with her through sunny South Africa and will def. post a few pix a.s.a.p.

Re: How about a picture of YOU with your GT?

Tim,

What a great picture! Shows the GT at it's best with rider and the bike in total communication on a tighter turn.

Bars look down and low from where the viewer sits, you're forward against the tank and over those bars. That style just helps make the GT respond so nicely, especially solo with the gradual rake, being in this postion makes the turn initiation easier, gives greater traction on that front wheel and provides more feel through the duo-lever suspension.

Thanks for sharing.

Miles

You forgot to mention, "Looking through the turn," which is what caught my eye as an essential rule for good riding skills.

Thanks for the reminder on that. Found out, after a short tour with them up, that if you don't lower the bars, you tend to look at the bar ends!! (at least at might height in the seat on the high position)

Re: How about a picture of YOU with your GT?

Well, the '07 is dead with just over 138K miles, and has been replaced by an '09 K13GT.

Here's a pic taken after I took 1st place in my local dealer's Tour d'UNelegance Bike Show, under The Road/Touring category.

Apparently, lots of stickers, high mileage, and the amount of crap bolted to your bike were important judging categories. I think not washing it, ever, helped too.

I won a cool bike trophy and a set of Pilot Road 2 tires, and all proceeds went to support the Ride for Kids charity. So not a bad day at all.

Here's a better pic of the bike, all decked out in Rally mode.

I've run two Long Distance Endurance Rallies with it so far, and have won both. So, not a bad year so far, either.

Pete - Bruce,

Just caught up with the picture thread again. Thanks for noticing the sticky and putting in your pictures.

And, Bruce, congratulations on both the new slant/4 GT and becoming a member here on i-bmw.com

And have to say, the pic of the "little one" on the GT is just beautiful - our one and half year old grandson is visiting and loves to clamber up on the saddle of our bikes - but seems he prefers to face "aft" <g>

Hey Ken looking good Just curious, you say the 07GT is dead with 138K miles on it, what was the cause of death? Engine shot, tranny?

Most of you probably already saw this one, but I thought I'd post it here...

Geoff,

Enjoyed the picture - especially when the background for a family twosome is a brilliant red K13GT same as mine.

Think the 2010 "red" K13GT's are going to enjoy a kind of "classic" status before long!

Dan,

Ken took a spill and was injured on the last leg of the Iron Butt Rally. He was riding a K13GT he acquired this past spring.

Hope we hear from him soon. Maybe I'll check over on the k-bikes websites tomorrow to see if there's any word on his recovering from injuries.

Here's a thread on Ken Meese's recovery from his get-off on the iron-butt rally.

Ken has participated in the thread, is going in for hand surgery shortly, but seems well on his way to a full recovery. This guy is one tough rider!

Oh, he also has a K12LT in his garage to ride when he everything is a-ok!

Think you're right Miles - just went in to the local dealer today for the pre-winter oil change and he said the same thing - he'd love to take the K13GT off my hands.....! (but he would say that, wouldn't he!)

P.S. Nice crisp frosty morning here in northeast Illinois today

Re: How about a picture of YOU with your GT?

Geoff -

No question the K13GT is a sought after motorcycle now. And, I can attest to that not only getting a great trade-in when the K16GT came along, but even meeting the lady who purchased my former bike just a month later and going with a ride with her and her husband on his motorcycle. (she said there were two other deposits on the bike before she got her chance to purchase it.) Don't think you have to worry about the long-term value of these bikes!

Dennis -

And you show why the K13GT is a fantastic motorcycle with these two great pictures you just added to this long-standing thread. Thanks alot for thinking of letting us share these moments with the bike.

Re: How about a picture of YOU with your GT?

Say, Scott and Phil - thanks for particpating in what might be my favorite, long-time thread!

Your bikes reprsent part of my own history with the GT's. Scott - had that exact color on my '07 GT - Crystal Gray!

Phil - logging onto the thread and seeing the pictures of your red GT - well, it's identical to my current K16GT!

Thanks to both of you for participating in the "GT Picture Thread"; and, here's wishing both of you great fun and enjoyment with your rides!

My handicapped daughter Shannon loves bikes. She wanted to sit on my GT so I cranked it up and rev'd it. She almost wet herself laughing. I gotta get a older bike with a sidecar for her someday.

Re: How about a picture of YOU with your GT?

Loved these pics - and the stories that go along with them either visual or in David's photo a little "inside" about his family life!

Thanks Kenn, Alex, David, and Mike for taking the time and contributing pictures to the GT "picture thread".

Think a lot of folks stop by and take a look at these pictures - something tells me!

OK. This was taken Sept 2011 by Kluane Lake, Yukon Territories Canada on the Alcan highway.
My wife and I were on our way south. It was a beautiful day but cool with temps in the 40's and windy.

It was a great trip. What a fantastic bike!

Re: How about a picture of YOU with your GT?

David,

Looks like your bike's color is the "Crystal Gray"; perfect to be posing by the "crystal clear" waters of that lake in the Yukon! How far afield these GT's travel!

And Vallier,

yours might be the first K16 picture in the photo thread. Bike looks terrific sitting on the sidestand.

Thanks for keeping thise long-standing thread going with these terrific pictures of your bike and points in your life.

Love the Crystal Gray Metallic color on the K12GT - just seems to fit the style of the bike so well.
