We Salute the Vets!

Happy Veteran's Day all of you Vets!

As a youngster, I ended up being too young to be drafted, and I remember very clearly how scared I was before they ended the draft. Growing older and wiser, I was less scared, but obviously, the chance of being drafted was no longer there. I ended up appreciating the service others gave to all of us.

A few years ago, my cousin, SGT. Jan Argonish, KIA 27 AUG 07, gave the ultimate sacrifice in his service. Since then, I put all Vets on a pedestal, and when I happen to cross paths with a Vet, any day of the year, I make a special attempt to thank him or her, and I find that they are usually very surprised.

Please, take the time to thank a Vet for their service. They've done something that many of us have not.

Agreed 100%. I'm thankful we have men & women that are willing to make such a sacrifice for us and this great nation.

Re: We Salute the Vets!

Several years ago, back when the only motorcycle rain gear was yellow, I was at Bulow Campground in Flagler Beach when I witnesses a sight that will always remain with me. Two white haired gentlemen were at the coffee pot when I walked up and they had just introduced themselves. One had a heavy German accent and the other American. I was preparing my coffee and not really paying attention to then when I heard one ask the other if they had been in the war. This was mid to late 80s and they were talking WWII. In the next very few sentences they realized that not only had they both been in the war, but both fought in the same area, and on opposite sides. This is when I started listening more intently. They agreed that there was a strong likely-hood they had even been in the same battles. One of them sat down his coffee and reached out his hand. The other sat down his coffee and opened his arms. One brief but sincere guy hug later and they began talking BMW motorcycles.

I was privileged to witness that brief moment. To all of our veterans, I wish I had a cup of coffee to offer you. Thanks, for everything.

Re: We Salute the Vets!

I've already given three vets here at work a big Thank You. Hopefully more as the day goes on!
And have had one person here at work wanting to know why I'm wearing a flag pin today...

Many, many thanks to the Vets here on this wonderful site for your service.

With Memorial Day coming fast, I couldn't help but think of Sgt. Argonish. Rest easy soldier, your sacrifice has been noted.
