Craig, if I may use your christian name, have been, & always will be a Stoner fan; the guy won 6 consecutive GP's at Philip Island; four on the Ducati, two on Honda, a record I feel, won't be broken in my life time. Hence, why I called it Stoner's Island; they named a corner after him, at the Island.

Have noticed a little negativity towards the bloke,.. Casey Moaner,..what a whinger, to name a couple, so, I guess it was an attempt at rattling a couple of cages.

BTW, bought a Stoner t-shirt at the Island, also a "Just Doohan It" t-shirt. If a Mike Hailwood was available,…would have grabbed that too.

Apologies for taking so long to get back re this. I had it all mapped out in my head as I was riding along it, using my trip-meter to map out the distances. But now all that info has blurred into the 3 700kms of riding we did before got to the island and the 1300 kms getting back home in 2 days.

So, I'll give it my best recollection...

About 10kms west of Delegate there is 2kms of fairly well graded dirt. You then have a few kms further to go back on tar before you cross the Vic border with the "105kms of curves" sign. You then get about 22kms of lovely tar before you hit THE patch of dirt on the Vic side. It's 12kms of well manicured dirt road on which you can purr along at around 50-60kph (slowing down for the many turns where there is evidence of accumulated stones). After that, it's tar all the way to Orbost. There are some stretches (roughly in the middle of the Vic border to Orbost run) that have blind left handers with unsettled or damaged tar that make you back off a bit until you hit the next stretch that gives you more confidence coming around similar bends. Especially loved the last stretch from Nurran coming into Orbost (very consistent bit of tar).

Vic Border, start of the good stuff

Isn't that stretch from the Jamieson Pub to Eildon simply magnificent, Grey Spikes? Its only been sealed in the last, oh, 7 years I think (edit: 5 years. I went up there in 2010 and the Jamieson end was still dirt). Amazing in the dirt - awesome now its sealed. 60 kms of bends and not one single solitary straight

It was good to catch up with Doctor350 at the track on race day down at "Siberia". Apologies for not wearing my Bikeibiz BMW cap (like yourself) for easy identification in the crowd!

Re: Philip Island GP 2015.

Hi Mark,

I was a bit shocked to see you without the BMW cap. Anyway, what a race that was.

I looked around for Uncle Fester, but couldn't see that beautiful man anywhere. Did catch up very briefly with Moggsy on the Friday. Tanya and I walked around the trackside camping area looking for him on Saturday evening, but couldn't locate him.

Did hear some loud explosions at night, cannot confirm if he was involved.

I was there John and was desperately looking for a man in a snake skin suit but nowhere to be found. Great weekend.

Thats because I was hiding; under a rock!

Did scoot into Cowes Sat early evening for a Kristo's souvlaki. Cowes was busy, sussed "Andy's Straps",…for some, straps; ended up purchasing at the expo from TOURATECH,.. ROK straps,…and they rock; ha, make little yoke.

Had a brief chat with doctor & Tanya; couldn't get near Uncle Fester, coz all the sheilas were throwing them selves at his handsomenessness.

Packo & I solved a couple of world/bike problems; we also noticed some Ian bloke rides a Ducati pretty fast. Still thinking seriously about super bikes in Feb; spend some prior rally time in Bairnsdale, getting to know the track! ;-)

Did not take nearly as many photos as Mark. Will post something, when I download and get my pooh in a pile.

Was at the race...WOW! What an experience! Great beer! Posted up by fence right before first turn. Could see several turns after. In person, they're FAST! Incredible riders! Did I say great beer?
