I think the k1300 series if BMW has worked out the numerous bugs that plagued the K1200S/R/GT.

I voted for the S1000RR, it's an all new bike for BMW and looks to be a great contender.

I like the 1300R, but it's still just an upgrade of an existing model. The S1000RR is all new and all cool!

Re: The Most Exciting BMW Bike for 2009 is:

Yeah, gave the nod to the S1000RR even though I have a brand spanking new GT - and it's red! <g> And it's to their credit that BMW saw fit to rework the 13 series bikes while concentrating on their race program.

S1KR (assume we're talking about the production version); well, either way race or series, it definately seems to me the "Halo" bike for BMW now and in the next while.

The caveat, though, might be bringing up results on the track for the race version; otherwise that halo might droop a bit. But, I think they did a great job styling the production version - albeit, as others have suggested, the signals are too low.

Having said all that, the GT is just gang-busters and its just getting better and better!

It is a greatly improved version, and holy sh-- is it fast, compared to my 07 k12s

If you're referring to World Superbike results, the Ducati has just a bit more development time... not to mention 200cc more displacement...

The Ducati has 200cc more displacement because it has 2 less cylinders. I love the S1000RR, I wanna buy one just my 0.02 that I like the K1300S better for now. I'm not flamming, I know I'm new but there are facts and reasons why BMW chose a 4 cylinder over a 2 cylinder. Great reasons, why not put them to the test. I could pick the S1000RR next year!

They have all the experience they need according to themselves
"German designers called on the know-how of the BMW F1 team to complete a machine that will no doubt mark the Superbike scene with its avant-garde features. Just think, a single cylinder of the S1000RR features 250 cc of displacement, while a cylinder of the F1 engine displaces 300 cc. That means that BMW knows how to rev its engines up to 19,000 rpm, and that the intake, valve control, injection, ignition and exhaust technologies can be swapped freely, which is almost enough to justify the great confidence and high podium expectations of BMW for 2009."

Uhmmm... yeah, so I've heard... but that's Ducati's choice. Rider skills aside, years of World Superbike results make it fairly obvious that the additional displacement more than compensates for fact that it is a twin. Ducati carries a lot of weight in World Superbike, and seem to have a strong influence over the rule makers...

Good point, never looked at the influence that way. Don't get me wrong I wanna see some strong competition, hey Ducati didn't even win last weekend, so there is more competition. I'm just saying don't sell BMW short they have a lot of other experience that lends a different perspective. The bike is beautiful and should perform well, set up and seat time are worth more than I took into account. Ducati probably does have a leg up. Can't wait to see how it pans out, I would like to see the BMW and new Aprilia RSV4 work their way up the standings, at least that would be a "Most Improved MFG" award of sorts.

I think BMW and Aprilia actually are doing remakably well at this stage of development. Consider that with the exception of a couple of tracks at which they've tested, they have zero setup data at each new venue... that has to be a significant disadvantage. I would consider this a development year for both teams, with any top ten finishes being a significant accomplishment. I'm not sure which races you're referring to Ryan, but Haga dominated on the Ducati at Valencia...

My bad, I was thinking Losail, Yamaha SPies and the RSV4 Biaggi. But you are right I would like to see a good development year.
Back on topic As far as retail goes, my recomendation, ride the K1300S. The clutchless shift is amazing, simply amazing, you just rip through the gears.

I agree... I have put over 50K miles on my two K1200S's, and I recently had the opportunity to spend a day on the K1300S... it gave me the impression of being the perfected version of the K1200S...

Well....the 1300 came in with a shwoosh and was just there...

I voted for the S1000RR because of the excitement surrounding the launch, BMWs forray back into racting, etc. etc....

Lots of excitement there for sure!

I agree. The winning bike has zero miles! And no one on this forum owns one.

+1 on the HP2 Sport category, Joel!

There would be one in the garage now instead of the K12S if I'd only known.

Okay, damn it. I agree. My K12S stalls occasionally, runs rough off throttle and at idle, and the BMWNA rep and the shop tell me its to spec. It's going to the shop for an extended stay for them to ride it a bunch (yes, I'll look at the odometer before and after) so they can replicate the problems. I don't know how they've missed 'em to date (4 times in the shop for this). Maybe they'll pick it up this time.

I see you have a PCIII in your 07. That's one of the last resorts for them, but it apparently hasn't solved your problem. Hmmmmm.

Are you going for an award as to how many times you can post up the same negative comment??

You are not in the majority and the digs grow old. My '07 doesn't stall....I also know quite a few that don't....we just aren't as vocal as those that, unfortunately have the problem. I do feel for you, but, get rid of it if it makes you that unhappy.

My 05 never has. Tends to fall over at times...but never stalls.

mine does both, but maybe they can fix the stalling problem. The falling over problem may need another operator to effect a repair.

+1

My '07 K1200S doesn't stall. I have an '06 Speed Triple that had numerous stator issues until I fixed it myself, thank you Triumph. While it is the most fun bike I have ever ridden it is going away and turning into an S1000RR. In fact I bought the K1200S to be the reliable counterpart to the Triumph.

Why not trade your bike on something that will work for you? I know how annoyed you must be but don't dwell on it.
