How could it be anything other than a K1300S or R?

Best street bike yes....but I like to ride off road too....so I would need a bike that does it all.

Used to keep 2-4 bikes in the garage but now there can be only 1, the S1XR, its a great all rounder.

If I could only have ONE bike, it would have to be a Sport Touring bike. They have performance, comfort, and they're easy to ride.

Re: If You Could Only Have 1 Bike...

Of all the bikes I have owned, it would probably have to be my K13S. But this is difficult because ones needs change with age. Now I miss my Vespa I used to own. My go to around town bike is my DR650. Did I ever say how cheap it is to own a DR??? Well it is. My K bike is a funnel for my wallet.

It would have to be a GS or a clone.
There are just too many reasons why.
Not even a close call.

Of the three bikes I own; Honda GB500, Honda VFR and K1300S, if I could keep but one I would definitely keep the K1300S. Were I to upgrade to one new bike I would get another sport tourer.

Re: If You Could Only Have 1 Bike...

That would be my K1600GTL. Every time I ride that bike I think to myself, I really like this bike. I want a bike that is good to bring the wife on and the GTL is it. Plus power and all the electronic features. Yeah it's big, heavy but it's a blast to ride. If I only rode by myself and did not do any long distance riding the S1000XR would be it.

At the moment, the KS I have. But I've learned to never say never when it comes to bikes. Although I will say it is very, very unlikely that I ever will consider a GS bike.

Re: If You Could Only Have 1 Bike...

If I could only have one bike - it would be the bike best suited for the type riding I'm doing the most of at the time.

Today I would choose my S1000RR because I go to the track almost every weekend in the summer.

When the track days start slowing down - and if I'm physically in good shape I may find me another K1300S.

If I'm in less than good shape - something much more upright and less weight.

I want something that makes it very easy to want to go for a ride.

Re: If You Could Only Have 1 Bike...

My K1300s seems a good choice for me. At age 64, I'm somewhat unlikely to get another bike anyway.

(My last bike was a 1985 K100RS I bought new and sold 30 years later in 2015.)

This bike is (obviously) a blast around town, and it can tour, though it's not the most comfortable. I avoid gravel roads and dirt anyway, so no desire for GS capabilities.

For me it would be either of my two bikes with sidecar attached. I stopped looking for a solo bike with enough carrying capacity to take all my "stuff" along.

John, those GS(A)'s are a different breed for sure, but you are absolutely the first person that has ever mentioned driving one home.

"K1600Gt Sport" sounds like an oxymoron to me.

Re: If You Could Only Have 1 Bike...

My pick will be my KTM 1290S. All the power and whistles I could ever need. Great with touring, hooligan when I want it and light offroad capability. The XR is close but the suspension a little to hard.

The new Kawasaki H2 SX could be a good future one bike candidate. Probably the best replacement for the iconic K 1300S.

I voted for "Something Comparable to a GS." I like to ride off road as much as or more than on the pavement. The GS is too heavy. I would prefer a lighter Dual Sport of the Japanese persuasion.

Re: If You Could Only Have 1 Bike...

Right now I have two motorcycles: A 2016 S1000XR and my 1950 Harley Davidson Panhead. I've had the Pan since 1962. I'll never sell it. Everything else is subject to wheeling and dealing.

Here she is right after a major renovation, back in '72:

Here she is, sitting in front of the Duvall Coffeehouse, on a nice day last summer:

Cold, dead fingers far as that bike is concerned.

Re: If You Could Only Have 1 Bike...

I'm sticking to BMWs. They're somewhat unreliable, but I've learned to fix them.

The K12R is just a beast. If she could speak would tell me "I'm not your queen". and roughs me up every time.

The K12LT... it's just too big for this country and these roads. It deserves the Colorado roads, not these roads. Everytime I want to sell it, I ride it and decide to keep it. Just beautiful, but cumbersome. Like a car balanced in two wheels cumbersome.

The R12R is a great city and canyon bike. Outstanding.

But the GS. WOW! What a great bike. The engine is not beastly like the K12R, allows me to change my mind when going fast. The K12R is 3-4 seconds and I'm nearing 200kph.
The GS can go anywhere, and reliable enough. Tall, and so nimble (uncanny for that ugly beast). The only thing close to it, it's the S1000XR (that I want).

I'm sticking to the GS. And not the GSA. The GS.
I'm not old, just enjoy riding a "slow" bike fast, rather than the stupid fast K12R slow.

Re: If You Could Only Have 1 Bike...

If it's a case of trading my current wheels for ONE shiny new one I lean toward the 1200GS OR the K1600b or new Goldwing(I'd hafta ride both first to decide).

If it's choosing between my Prudence or Bebe?
