Re: Conversions!

Kjell,

We wouldn't have to convert anything if the rest of the world would just do things our way!

Seriously....thanks for the link....one of the nicer sites I have seen!

The problem with Socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples' money. - Margaret Thatcher

You only need two tools in life -WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the Duct Tape

IF you can't fix it with a hammer, then you have an electrical problem!

Re: Conversions!

Can you furnisht the top speed of my K12GT in:
1. Furlongs per fortnight
2.Lightyears per fortnight

It does OK on the Furlong to Miles and Light Years to Miles but fell short on the Fortnight (14 days/2-weeks).

Many a year ago in college physics, diminensional analysis an important part of the course. Some quirky professors liked to be cute and come up with unusual dimensions.

Re: Conversions!

It can get tricky in my line of work. They want things designed in metric often, but the material stock, fastener sizes, wire guage sizes, and machinists and welders all seem to think in inches/pounds. Good thing for modern design software. But I still find it tricky where to draw the line at where in the process I convert to inches, since software doesn't like to round off numbers, so I have to decide, is this dimension 10cm or 3.937 inches.

Some years ago I was working at a place in the US, with the parent company in Italy. A machine was designed in italy, but they wanted to build it in the US. Bosses were like, oh it's easy drawing conversion. But there were lots of plate stock with tapped holes in from the edges, at half the plate thickness. Well it's near impossible to get metric plate state-side, so the change from 6mm thk plate to .25" (6.35mm) would have put all of the holes off by .175mm, making for lot's of redesign if it were to assemble properly. It took me awhile to convert, didn't help that I didn't know any italian. Good thing for google translate :-)

I've used that one. Generally if it's more complicated than inches to mm or back, I just google "convert cubic meters to feet per second" or whatever it is
