Tires PR4 vs. PR4 GT

I`m buying new tires and need help choosing between the PR4 and the PR4 GT. Most threads suggest the PR4, but my situation is different than most. I ride 2up almost 75% of the time and i`m a rather big guy. Any thought or suggestions will be appreciated.

Re: Tires PR4 vs. PR4 GT

Given those factors I'd go with GTs. I'm very happy with GTs on my K12RS & have no perception of them being too stiff.

Definitely go with the GT, but personally I've tried them and although they did last, I felt the rear was a little loose! I've gone to the Pirelli angel GTs A spec and absolutely love them! Stick like glue and are wearing great.

I've been hearing lots of good things about Pirelli angel GTs. Here's in interesting read on the topic. http://mototirereviews.com/sport-tou...-tire-reviews/

Re: Tires PR4 vs. PR4 GT

I had the p4 tires and after those I went with the p4gt and am on my second set on the k1300r. I was worried that they were not the right tire for my bike but they have been great. As for the Angel gt I ride a lot in the rain (wet coast) and the p4gt has been great where as I hear the only complaint about the angel is wet weather riding.

Re: Tires PR4 vs. PR4 GT

Yeah, Yeah, get the GT version for 20$ more. Especially 2 up. They are noticeably heaver duty. The non GT tires are very light and I have a set on my k bike right now. Getting use to them but seem okay. I bought them because of the wet weather reports. And if you have non tire pressure monitor wheels, change your valve stems every few years.

I change your tires, you buy them on the web, I do the work $40, trying to keep riders on the road.

Re: Tires PR4 vs. PR4 GT

I don't think anyone has actually answered what is the difference between normal and GT version, other than they "feel great" because they are designed for heavier bikes.

Touring and adventure bikes with luggage panniers tend to develop high speed weave/wobble. It's caused mostly by change in aerodynamics. Having a tyre with stiffer sidewall means less side-to-side movement, making bike more stable. It has nothing to do with different compounds, different grip or load rating. It's purely to stop the wobble.

Re: Tires PR4 vs. PR4 GT

Recently put a GT on the front of our K12RS.

The ride is noticeably harsher, one or two up.

The back still has a standard PR.

If you have a K16 or bike of similar or heavier weight, such as a Wing, then the harshness may not be noticeable.
