BMW's latest sports touring concept - the 9cento

Not sure how much "touring" one will really get out of it - those bags don't look like they will hold much more than a toothbrush and a pair of skivvies, but I bet it would be a blast in the twisties.

I like the design but I would like a bigger motor. I'm also very curious as to how an electromagnetic set up works.

With regard to design and utility, I feel as though BMW has written me off.

Imagine a sports touring bike with no real back seat and only 800cc engine? Looks cool but more on the sport end of touring

Basically, a fancy name for a solenoid that replaces a key lock. Hopefully there is a backup manual way of doing the same thing since we know how reliable modern BMW switch gear is.

Re: BMW's latest sports touring concept - the 9cento

Looks like a dirt bike to me.........BMW doesn't have anything coming along that appeals to me. That's why I added a 3 year extra warranty for my 2016 RR. Maybe by Feb 2022 they'll have come up with something. If I'm still rding by then, that is.

Re: BMW's latest sports touring concept - the 9cento

I'm kinda curious about the R1250 engine that is reported to be coming. I've always liked the notion of the 1200RS and if they can make one with 150 hp and over 100 ft.lbs in a usable RPM range, I think that might scratch my sport touring itch enough to keep me from straying over the orange bike store. My 1290R gives me a woody and invokes diabolical laughter every time I ride it and throwing saddle bags and a small windscreen on it might make it a sport/touring bike, but not a great one. Until then, I'm putting the 1290R in the hooligan bike category and my GS a multi-purpose bike: enduro with knobs on it, sport touring with street tires, and long range tourer with the hard cases on it.

Re: BMW's latest sports touring concept - the 9cento

A test bed for subsystems rather than a new bike IMO. The electromagnetic bag/seat is very interesting. Depending on how much weight is added for the system and various gub'ment transportation agency requirements on safety/retention of bags, it would be a really slick way of attaching accessory luggage/tankbag without the need for frame mounts or fiddly straps.

Re: BMW's latest sports touring concept - the 9cento

I got all excited when I saw the title of the thread......that is not a "Sport touring" motorcycle.
