Jealous! I spent 5 weeks in Brisbane and road tripped it from there to Sydney and back. You guys have a awesome country that I'll visit again one day. I'd love to get out on the island for the races. It's on my short list of things that need to happen. Take some pictures and post'em up!!

It certainly does, & now all we need to is to have a strong road racing circuit again. How I long to see bikes on Mt Panorama
It's not like we don't have the weather

Ray.

They used to race bikes at Bathurst (Mt Panorama) in the 70's and 80's - I don't know why they ever stopped. I used to go every year when I lived in Canberra. Was a great weekend.

Re: Australian WSBK

I was going but cancelled as I`ve been for the last 5 years to wsbk and to motogp. The island is my favourite place but decided this year to put the bikes on the spirit of Tasmania and cruise around over their for 10 days or so and going to PI would have shortened my stay in Tassie.
Wsbk at the island is the best and beats motogp in my opinion but leave is unfortunatley limited so I`ll wait and go to motogp in October. Anyway 10 days in Tassie should be a good warm up for the rally.
Will leave Thursday morning and hoping to make somewhere around Omeo Thursday night so we`ll be at the Omeo pub for a couple to re hydrate that night so anyone coming through look out for the K13s and black F800st and sing out.

I'll keep an eye out for you but I reckon we might gone past omeo by Thursday pm. I hope you enjoy your trip , Tassie is somewhere I have to go soon.
I would love to have seen the bikes on mt panorama, it would be insane , it always amazed me that Ireland has a very strong road racing culture and terrible weather, but here's the opposite
Safe travels, hope all goes well

Re: Australian WSBK

Well, we're home safe and sound from WSBK.
Great trip & we managed to miss all the bad weather both ways, I must have crossed a black cat somewhere, Plenty of beer & laughs, & Johnny Rea finished 1 & 2 as well, so a perfect weekend
We went down through Oberon, Goulburn to Cooma Day 1, then Day 2 was a few side spins around the snowy mountains (Charlottes Pass etc )before on to Tallangatta via Thredbo. Day 3 was to Cowes via Mount Beauty & Falls Creek.
I had won a pit pass from Pirelli the day before I left so I could wander all around the pits & paddock. Brand new GTs & a pit pass too........bargain
Monday, I split from the crew & left them to their hangovers in Cowes. I have been looking at a run through Mitta Mitta for a while & the back way up the mountains to Cooma via Cabramurra looked inviting. Mitta mitta was awesome, nearly 200Kms of tight bends, sweepers & straights with amazing views, the only worry being sections of recently repaired road with loose gravel. 2 front wheel slips had me thinking of Uncle Fester last year, so I settled down for a while. The road up through Corryong is narrow but well surfaced, & the views across the valleys are superb. Mind you I was racing an incoming storm so didn't have time for sightseeing , I made it to Cooma with 15 minutes
before the skies opened.
Round figures, about 3000Kms of riding across 5 days. Mostly 4-500k days, but Monday was around 900.
Roll on the rally, can't come soon enough

Lake Jindabyne NSW

Charlottes Pass

Charlottes Pass

Charlottes Pass

At the bottom of Dead Horse Gap

A gentle reminder from the local constabuarly to behave. Good bloke, a smile, a warning on road conditions & on your way. We could use more like him

Heading up to Falls Creek. Great roads, some of the best

Me with Hudson Pitt, WSS rider & distant family.

Troy Bayliss, WSBK Legend

Johnny Rea, another legend but Irish this time

Sunrise, Monday morning, leaving the island

Mitta Mitta, smack in the middle of nowhere

Good bloke too, & he hasn't lost anything either, a problem with the tyre caused him to pullout of race 2 for a change. There was no point, race wise, to come back on, but he did & damn near set a race best lap. Just to prove to himself that he could still cut it

Definitely Matt, I'm looking forward to seeing it again

Hey Ray, notice we are both a fan of Johnny Rea; hows his form on the Kawasaki? I see a championship, if he doesn't bin it.

Plus a little bump. Those roads bought back some "Rally" memories.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for him, he's always had loads of talent, just never the bike
The Vic high country is God's own for bikes, proof that she exists and rides a bike

Maaaate! Do not miss out on it next year; the reports say it all. Mat may have made a comment about 4 days riding, next year.

J Rae married a Melbourne girl, didn't he? Know she was Ausie. Poor old Tom Sykes can't win a trick, Chaz D is also riding well; probably better racing, than GP, IMO; plus normally 3 different manufacturers in the first 4 bikes places.
I would most certainly like to see J Rae win the C/Ship. Rode well on the Honda last year; only thing that let him down, was the bike.

After this year, I'm making no plans until closer to the day
I Think shes from cowes actually, and until Rossi started winning again I had more interest in the superbikes than the GP. The atmosphere at the island is much better for wsbk , more relaxed

While I'd also like to see Nicky at the pointy end, he's in a team that doesn't have surplus money, and Johnny, Tom, Chaz and a couple of Italians, will be hard to beat.

I think Johnny will be strong again this year. I really admire Nicky, I remember an interview where he referred to the "Aliens". He realised he couldn't match them but never stopped trying .
