Is this original paint for a 1977 R75/7? Other questions too . . .

Is this original paint? Or is this at least an original color for a 1977 R75/7?

Thanks.

Looks like it might be paint code 511: "Havana Gold. Not gold, but almost a feces-colored brown."

Not sure if this one has been repainted, but it looks pretty close to a std color that was offered on 1977-1978 Boxer models (Orange Metallic).

See this Web-site for data on most paint color codes for BMW motorcycles:
http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/colourcharts.htm

http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/paintcodes.htm (choose ORANGEs/GOLDs in top menu buttons , see paint code 034 / Scheme code 534)

FINALLY... see MAX-BMW parts fiche for a 1977 having color code 034 (Scheme 534). Note that all painted parts for older BMW are generally marked as NA (no longer available). It depends on popularity / production numbers but nowadays, after 15 years of age, most painted parts are available on PRIMER only.
https://shop.maxbmw.com/fiche/Diagra...=16111 235944

P.S.: I guess it could also be "Havana Gold", not sure of photo rendering on a computer screen (compare to Metallic-Orange)

Re: Is this original paint for a 1977 R75/7? Other questions too . . .

Anything to look out for when purchasing a 1977 R75/7?

I wanted a 1972 R75/5 so bad when I was in the USAF in California. But they wanted $1800 for a new one so I settled on a new 1972 Yamaha XS650 for $1350 -- which I rode all over the US.

Here's a link to several threads started by one of our members who restored and early 80's R100RS, which mechanically isn't too different from the late 70 models, you may find some answers scanning through these. http://www.i-bmw.com/search.php?searchid=1167285 and there are several "boxer" forums, https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C....ZYlDrh r7MTQ

If you want a definitive answer send the photo to Theo Terwel: http://www.theoterwel.nl

He is he only person BMW recommend to repaint R90s and other BM's that have that "smoke" finish, and he will know for sure whether this is an original paint job or not.
