Intro; + pitchers!!

G'day from WA,
most call me Paul, friend's call me mogs, (amongst other things)

Grew my eye teeth on NZ roads; first bike being an Ariel 500.

Thats a 15 year old me, tearing it apart; to see why it was going so well.

The finished product; doesn't the dark metallic blue set the tank & fenders off? Yes, our TV was B&W also.

These were most desirable at the time, but even then, fetching good money. Spotted this at a historical display at Cannington, Perth, few years ago.

In the very early 70's, the R90S was released; when I saw a picture of one in a magazine, my man bits tingled. Being an apprentice, they were out of my financial league.

Fast forward to the early 80's, while in Perth for a visit, found a second hand R90S, that I took for a ride, with intensions of buying.

The way it cocked it's arse up, and squatted down under brakes & acceleration left me non-plussed.
Also knocking the "bing" carbies with the shins, didn't impress.

About 2008 I got a BMW itch that couldn't be scratched.

My first BMW, with my nephew on one of my Triumphs.
In 1994, the R1100RS was voted "international m/c of the year.
That may be all well & good, but it had two hinkey's I couldn't live with.
Pull the bike up, put in neutral, put the side (kick) stand down, killed the engine!! WTF.
Thank you Mick McKinnon, for his mod with a relay, to trick the bike into not doing that trait.
Secondly, with the ABS pre-check it goes thru, more often than not, you would ride off with no ABS, because the voltage threshold was set to high. Stop after 5-10 minutes riding, turn it off; turn it back on, start and all good.
Thank-you Mick McKinnon (again) with help from Brian Curry. (internet BMW Riders) forum.
Some changed wiring & another relay eliminated that problem also.

Always liked the R1100S; still do. This is in South Australia, and looking at the "great Australian bight."
Have been doing this crossing for a few years now; been to the last four GP's at Philip Island.
About 5 or 6 years ago (around oz on a Sprint 1050) this access was closed to the public. Reason being, "BJ" wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, took a nose dive off the cliff, and it didn't end well.
In typical bureaucratic fashion, they closed the area to the public, until the bollards & wire ropes were erected; to protect us; from ourselves. Go figure.

Bought this, for some of those "shits & giggles." Wanted to see what 123 killer wasps is all about.
This bike also steered me to this forum (via google) twice.

The first search being,….."ABS fault light" It was the sticky brush in the ABS module.
Once that was fixed, Ima looking for the engine number with no success, google is your friend, and got sent back here, again.

Anyhoo, hope this is an acceptable intro; I'll now slip over to Mat's thread and register some interest in the oz rally in March.

Not only, but also, g'day Packo. Enjoyed chatting with you at the GP.

Cheers 4 now,
mogs.

Re: Intro; + pitchers!!

Thank-you all for a very warm welcome.

falconcan & CJS350; takes a day & a half riding, just to get out of W-Australia.
West Australian roads (mostly) are mind numbingly booring. As soon as you hit S-Aust, it's pretty much the same, except for the "great Australian bight," Will do my best, IF I go to the "rally" in March.

Fran; Yeah, Gero now, after working in Newman (BHP iron-ore) for 15 years.

FR1956; pitchers was my way of getting cute; thought the reader would think, "here we go, another one that can't spell"? Not exactly a "pitcher" but have a swig out of this!
